Black & Veatch’s Environmental Services team has provided environmental consulting services in support of industrial projects for over 40 years including a diverse and growing mix of power generation and industrial facilities.

Primary Purpose:
Our Environmental Services team is a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and attorneys working together to identify optimum environmental solutions for our clients. The Acoustical Consultant is involved in all aspects of acoustical design and noise control engineering to support the broad scope of global projects in the areas of power generation, petrochemical, electric transmission and distribution, water supply, wastewater treatment, and telecommunications. The Acoustical Consulting position provides an exciting opportunity to join B&V’s Environmental Services team.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
The position presents the opportunity to contribute to a client-focused team lead by experienced engineers in diagnosing issues and delivering solutions to each client’s needs. Each day will present new and exciting opportunities to contribute to in-depth technical studies and solve our clients’ most difficult challenges. Our Acoustical Consultants support all phases of projects including siting, permitting, engineering design, procurement, construction, and commissioning. They coordinate directly with project managers, proposal managers, chief engineers, and project design engineers from all divisions and businesses within Black & Veatch as well as with clients, facility owners, and equipment manufacturers. They review noise regulations, conduct ambient noise surveys, model facility noise emissions, evaluate potential community impacts, determine necessary mitigation, prepare required reports and documentation, support licensing efforts through agency and public review, and provide expert testimony as necessary. The Acoustical Consultants perform acoustical design studies to support project engineering, procurement, and construction activities, develop equipment sound level specifications and mitigation requirements to ensure compliance with the design objectives while maintaining a cost-effective facility design, and perform noise emissions performance tests to demonstrate compliance with all regulatory and contractual requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:
All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Preferred Job Qualifications:
Positive, team-first attitude. Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred or any other degree, specialized training, or experience that uniquely qualifies the individual to perform the job responsibilities. Professional written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of basic engineering principles with a proactive interest in continued learning. Ability to learn on the fly and use engineering judgment to solve complex problems. Desire to develop industry leading solutions. Academic exposure to acoustics and noise control. Basic knowledge of industrial technologies and trends. FE (EIT) with ability/interest in pursuing a PE.
