Black & Veatch (B&V) Water is committed to using Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology to execute the design, construction, and commissioning of both new construction and retrofit projects. BIMs will be built to describe the design and construction work to be performed. The BIM Specialist will support project teams through the setup, configuration, technical support, and troubleshooting of CAD/BIM tools and processes. BIM Specialist are also responsible for aiding project personnel in the implementation of the BIM technologies through proactive training, support and examples.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Project Support: • Executes projects using commercial plant design tools or AECO (Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Operations) software to deliver the engineering deliverables to include: ○ Operating Procedures & working instructions ○ Inter discipline modelling approach & execution ○ Engineering requirements & input for configuring the commercial plant design system for multiple related engineering disciplines & tool sets ○ Template configuration & conformance to Project requirements ○ Provide technical support to all engineering disciplines • Setup, maintain & provide guidance on global work sharing with plant design software • Analyze software issues, suggest workarounds where possible, & report bugs to software vendors when appropriate • Support multiple complex projects spanning multiple business lines (O&G, P/G, PD) with multiple engineering disciplines & tool sets. • Coordinate project turnover • Work with project SMEs to provide training on new tools • Interact with clients for project turnover • Identify & direct new training opportunities to improve project execution • Coordinate training & support across multiple offices & regions • Identify cost saving opportunities on projects using plant design tools Software Administration: • Configuration & customization for all engineering disciplines including but not limited to: ○ Data Field additions & changes ○ Complex deliverable modifications ○ Report customization & new report creation ○ Equipment tag format changes ○ Border changes ○ Establish & maintain standard library of CAD symbols, macros & templates • Owns new Project setup & maintenance • Responsible for setup & maintenance of user accounts • Interfaces design tools with additional related software products • Plans & implements software upgrade to minimize impact on project execution • Tests new commercial software releases • Continues expanding knowledge to multiple tools across a suite of tools • Develops knowledge of multiple commercial design tools • Continues expanding knowledge to multiple B&V technologies &/or business lines • Identified as a SME across multiple disciplines, multiple tool sets, & multiple business lines • Identifies cost / time saving opportunities through custom applications & gathers requirements to define scope of new tool Processes & Standards: • Reviews & provides feedback to process owners on changes required due to new plant design software • Suggests improvements to processes/standards based on use of commercial plant design software • Reviews & suggests improvements to processes, standards, & guides based on an depth knowledge of multiple design tools • Provides input to existing & new process spanning multiple disciplines or multiple tool sets • Accountability for process ownership System Configuration: • Works with B&V's 3rd party software vendors to setup, maintain, & upgrade databases, networks & servers to support commercial plant design software • Reviews & suggests relational database changes to improve functionality of plant design system • Oversee complex system / network improvements • Directs complex analysis People Mgmt: • As a manager, provides direction to a group of design technologists. Typically oversees performance mgmt, career planning, recognition, learning & development. May participate in compensation mgmt, succession planning, disciplinary actions, employee relations & workforce planning. Resource Mgmt: • Manages resources typically involving multiple lines of business or discipline. Common responsibilities include staffing, recruiting, budgets, tools &/or processes. Resolves resource conflicts & identifies training needs. Influences & implements resource mgmt strategy. Administrative: • Administrative responsibilities may include office administration. Ensures policies, procedures, & processes are effectively implemented & communicated for workgroup. Ensures adherence to corporate & division programs. May approve timesheets & expense reports.
Typically a minimum of 12 plus years related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
• At least 6 years of experience in the engineering and construction industry
• Experience with Autodesk Revit
• Advanced knowledge of technology trends
• Experience with Dynamo and/or Autodesk Forge APIs a plus
• Basic knowledge of constructability practices and principles
