The market areas are power/CHP, pellets, bio-liquids, and biogas. The biomass feedstocks that serve these markets include woody biomass (including urban wood waste), agricultural residues, energy crops, municipal solid waste, sewage sludge, fats/oils/greases (FOG), and animal wastes.
Manages small, minimally complex Bioenergy projects. Manages one to a few clients and/or projects.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
The candidate will serve as the Project Manager (PM) on multiple small to medium size bioenergy consulting and engineering services projects to meet both Black & Veatch and multiple clients’ goals. The PM will develop new bioenergy business and will work with the Services Sales and Marketing team under the guidance of the Project Director. The PM will help to implement the B&V Bioenergy Business Plan and oversee budget expenditures supporting the plan.
The position will focus on bioenergy technologies such as biomass to power, to pellets, and to biofuels. Projects may include a wide variety of applications, including conventional combustion, cofiring, fuel conversion, combined heat and power (CHP), gasification, pyrolysis, plasma arc, and anaerobic digestion.
This is a Seller-Doer position that can involve a wide variety of diverse assignments including: resource assessment, due diligence, siting, feasibility studies, new technology evaluation, project proposal evaluation, market assessments, strategic planning, policy evaluation, pro forma economic analysis and project design and construction management. In addition, this position will have some marketing and business development responsibilities. Candidate will work to establish and maintain relationships and develop a high level of trust and credibility with key clients.
The Project Manager will work to plan and assign resources for bioenergy projects. The Project Manager will also support the growth of the Bioenergy team by being involved with hiring and mentoring the professional staff.
The position will entail interaction with clients including: utilities, energy project developers, financial institutions, energy end-users, investors, government agencies, and other organizations.
Specific job responsibilities include managing consulting and design services projects, including scope definition, project staffing, technical oversight, responsibility for successful project execution on time and within budget, manage change, and client satisfaction. Other responsibilities include:
•Lead and contribute to authorship of reports, studies, and proposals.
•Ability to build, mentor and motivate multi-disciplinary teams.
•Implement Safety, Quality, Ethical Standards, Lessons Learned, and Performance Management in accordance with Business Policies, Standards, and Guides.
•Obtain new/repeat business on small to medium size projects and support contract negotiations.
•Manage risk which may include fixed priced consulting and design services contracts, new technology, or new clients.
•Manage budgets, costs, financial reporting and accounts payable on projects.
•An understanding and application of contract commercial terms.
•Application of risk identification, mitigation, and management practices.
•Represent Black & Veatch through speaking engagements and participation in industry meetings.
5 years Bioenergy Project Management experience. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
