Contract with potential to convert to permanent. The OSP/ISP Field Technician functions in a technician capacity, working primarily in the field, to gather data for engineering and design of aerial, underground, and buried fiber optic facilities. This position requires frequent travel around Columbus, OH Metro and occasionally other metro areas. Although this position predominantly involves field work, it will also require completion of administrative tasks as required by project leadership. Based on experience, skill level, and project needs, there is a potential for this position to move over into more complex field data collection. Under close supervision, performs basic functions requiring technical knowledge utilizing electronic applications, processes, standards and document control processes/procedures for the purpose of creating or modifying deliverable. Evaluates methods used to accomplish the drafting and/or design activities.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
This job is based in Columbus, OH and entails field work around the Columbus Metro Area and occasionally other metro areas to take pictures, measurements, document existing facilities, and obtain design information in preparation for Fiber network design.
Limited Overnight Travel.
Contractor will follow Black & Veatch travel policy at all times.
Will follow Black & Veatch safety policies.
Engineering Standards: Continues to learn and apply standards, systems, document control, departmental guides and B&V policies and procedures.
Quality / Continuous Improvement: Ensures that deliverables are accurate and compliant by continually developing knowledge of the B&V Quality Program. Demonstrates personal accuracy and supports continuous improvement and change management efforts.
Engineering Production: Broadens knowledge of the applications required to modify and develop less complex deliverables based on a variety of design inputs. May assist with minor computations such as material quantity estimates and dimensional checks.
Project Coordination: May assist in coordinating deliverables with other groups involved on the same project to minimize interference or errors.
Client Focus: Focuses on the needs of internal clients while attempting to gain basic understanding of external client's main interests and drivers.
Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology: Proactively seeks and shares knowledge of latest technologies and processes.
Travel to various MDU’s to determine fiber routing
All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
Diploma or Certificate preferred. Typically a minimum of 1+ year related work experience, prefer 2+ years.
OSP/ISP/MDU or Fiber data collection/site walk experience.
Prefer knowledge of Columbus metro and knowledge or experience with jurisdictional requirements.
*Must Have OSP Fiber Field Data Collection experience and has either OSP construction or design experience, preferably both.
Ideal candidate will have 1 or more of the following areas of experience:
* OSP network design
* Field engineering
* Experience with permitting or special crossings (bridge, water, railroad…)
* Fiber to the Cell Site (FTTCS)
* Make-ready design/construction
* GIS experience
Individual must be available to mobilize when scheduled and possess a valid driver’s license with a clean motor vehicle report.
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc…)
Ability to work outside in varying weather conditions
Must be able to stand, bend, squat, walk, move, lift, carry… equipment (>20lb) for the duration of the work day
