Primary Purpose:
Functions as a project manager, lead design engineer, and a technical specialist. Accountable for the planning and execution of our projects to the defined scope, cost and programme to meet our Client’s requirements. Leads a multi-disciplinary team to deliver complex technical solutions across a range of professional services and engineering and construction projects. With minimal supervision, applies advanced engineering techniques and analyses for problems and methods. Expands knowledge and skill set in project management and engineering of utility infrastructure projects.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Engineering Management:
Leadership of multi-disciplinary engineering teams to deliver technically complex solutions and designs on a variety of Water/Wastewater Utility, Power Utility, Renewable Energy, Nuclear, and Technical Services projects. Prepare design fee estimate, scope and programme. Deliver all assigned tasks within assigned budgets and within programme. Responsible for the production of all project technical deliverables to client requirements, applicable codes, and regulations. Lead CDM compliance on their schemes. Provide technical assistance to others by sharing information through team discussions and internal presentations. Identify business effective learning opportunities and submit to budget holder for approval. Provide thought leadership by arranging and leading appropriate design meetings; making best use of the insight of the wider team and sharing effective learning points. Support PM with full compliance with the B&V H&S Management System where EM has responsibility so that no Correction Action Requests (CARs) are issued. Share responsibility with PM for undertaking BOSS reviews on each project within portfolio involving design, site investigation/survey, and construction at frequency defined in Project Plan. Review design with respect to H&S and welfare of constructors, operators and end users.

Project Management:
Plan, execute, monitor and control projects in terms of scope, time, cost, quality, resource, communications, risk, procurement and stakeholder management. Deliver projects to the As-Sold financial metrics or better. Report PICs and Consultancy RAG to the business on monthly basis. Balance the needs of multiple projects. Leadership of the overall coordination and production of multi-disciplinary appraisals and designs. Organise and chair professional client meetings. Manage consultancy projects varying in size up to a £1m in revenue.

Business Development:
Gain a thorough understanding of the customer’s performance requirements during the sales process and formulate a scope of work that adds value for our customers and us. Assess the technical and commercial risk of projects during the sales process. Create and review proposals and costings for strategic growth clients under the Adjacent Utility strategy varying in size up to £2m in revenue. Work with our Regional Delivery Director to identify opportunities to improve our business management systems. Communicates client interests and drivers to project team members and develops approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work during project delivery
Quality / Continuous Improvement: Responsible for ensuring compliance with B&V quality management program. Continues to learn, remains current and applies independent knowledge and interpretation about departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and B&V policies and procedures relative to assigned tasks

Engineering Production:
Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables. Performs complex research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection. Prepares complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles. Reviews lower level engineering work or assignments. Recognised as a technical specialist by the mechanical engineering division having in-depth knowledge of an engineering process and/or of technical aspects of an industry. Designs a complete project of moderately complex scope within an assigned practice area(s).

People Management:

Typically assists with performance management process, mentoring, recognition, and any corrective actions required.

Salary range is - £40,000 - £44,500pa

Minimum Qualifications:
Education & training: Bsc (hons) Mechanical Engineering.

Background & experience: •Demonstrated customer-facing success in project delivery and business development
•Previous experience in an engineering management or technical engineering role on projects using the NEC suite of contracts
• Experience of proactive mentoring, support and assistance to fellow technical staff within team
• Proven ability to plan, execute, monitor and control projects in terms of scope, time, cost, quality, resource, communications, risk, procurement and stakeholder management.

Knowledge base:
• Knowledge of Programme Management, Change Management, and Earned Value Analysis to monitor project performance and produce accurate cost and spend profiles

•Excellent communicator with staff, clients, joint venture partners and stakeholders
•Ability to work under time pressure and balance multiple priorities
• Leadership skills to manage project teams and create positive change
• Proven ability to lead Power Utility, Nuclear, Water /Wastewater Non-Infrastructure and Water Infrastructure projects

Required Competencies:

• Working knowledge of current Health & Safety regulations and guidelines including CDM Regulations
• Advanced application of all MS Office Suite software including MS Project and Visio
• Knowledge of Quality Management systems including application of ISO 9001 and PAS 1192 in an engineering and design environment
• Ability to lead presentations and chair client and/or team meetings with confidence and persuasion
