We’ve produced results on nearly 500 projects and more than 50,000 megawatts in hydropower design. Our civil team leads projects on dams, canals, tunnels, penstocks, and other hydraulic structures as well as provides structural support at powerhouses.

Primary Purpose:
Black & Veatch has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Hydraulic Structures Engineer within our principal Hydropower and Hydraulic Structures design center in Sacramento, California.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• Coordination with multidiscipline teams on Hydropower and Hydraulic Structures Projects
• Civil, structural and hydraulic calculation and analysis
• Preparation of civil drawings and specifications
• Preparation of feasibility studies, alternative analysis, design criteria and other reports
• Bid and construction services
• Condition and risk assessment of civil assets
• Supervision of junior engineering staff
• Client and contract development
• Part of Hydropower and Hydraulic Structures leadership team

Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 11 years related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Preferred Job Qualifications:
• B.S. Civil Engineering; Master’s preferred
• 15 + years of experience in water-related civil engineering
• 3+ years in hydraulic structures design
• Experience with structural, hydraulic or geotechnical analysis software preferred
• Varied construction and/or field experiences preferred
• Some regulatory compliance experience preferred
• Active industry organization participation preferred
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Supervisory skills
• Client communication and contracting skills
