Job Summary

The ideal candidate for this role is passionate about solving user problems with innovative front end techniques while directing a collaborative & cross-functional team environment. This person will manage the UX program from research through deployment with a hands-on approach and a lean team of talented UX designers and developers.   This team will work closely with leadership and a seasoned development team in an agile environment to deliver best-in-class user experiences for our platform.  The role will be based in Kansas City, with willingness to travel occasionally when necessary.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create a superior user experience and oversee the product design process & team
  • Keeps the customer’s ease of use as a top priority while aligning to business outcomes
  • Lead a team of designers/researchers while additionally recruiting, fostering and retaining best-in-class talent
  • Be a champion for the UX discipline and the team
  • Collaborate with platform leadership on vision and strategy to ensure interaction experience is on brand, meets stakeholder needs and accomplishes business goals
  • Design and oversee UX research program to identify and document UX improvement opportunities
  • Recommends new research activities to deepen the understanding of mental models for specific user groups in order to make strategic, informed design recommendations.
  • Assist with other tasks and projects as assigned
Management Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience leading design of rich interactive experiences, including responsive web and mobile application design.
  • 4+ years of management experience.
  • A degree in design, human-computer Interaction or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate degree preferred
  • Demonstrated success in designing customer-facing, large scale experiences that perform well on mobile
  • Strong design aesthetic, attention to detail, and familiarity with using data and customer insights to influence design decisions
  • Must have a strong portfolio featuring examples of visual, interaction and graphic design work
  • Extensive knowledge of information architecture, user-centered design best practices, creative and visual design concepts and their application to product design
  • Experience working with researchers in both quantitative and qualitative data gathering to help make decisions and iterate on the product
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, agile environment, while leading process improvement efforts for the team and developing long term roadmaps
  • Self-motivated, a good communicator, and ability to balance great design with meeting short deadlines
  • Proven experience in team building, mentoring, and leadership
  • Decisive and supportive to UX team by managing work intake and load balancing among team members
  • Expertise in Sketch, Invision, Adobe Creative Suite, and UX prototyping tools
