Job Summary

This Union Labor Relations Professional works on the assigned construction project site with the site team to ensure that BVCI's internal Labor Policy is being followed. Will handle all site labor issues including working through all payroll and contract discrepancies. Advising on jurisdiction and discipline. Keeping the BVCI Union Labor Relations Manager and/or Director abreast on all labor activity for assigned project.


Key Responsibilities

  • Works with the site team to implement all labor policy as defined in the Labor Manuel specific to the project.
  • Works with the site team to help implement and address all jurisdictional issues amongst craft.
  • Should be the point of contact of the Building Trades covering the project.
  • Works with the site team to implement and handle all discipline pertaining to union craft and our internal and site-specific jobsite rules.
  • Manages the 16 Steps processes and reporting for assigned project.
  • Will handle all fact finding on grievances and EEOC charges that pertain to union craft.
  • Will work with payroll on all agreement payroll issues.
  • Will work with union halls on manpower requests including apprenticeship needs.
  • Will attend all BTC meetings including for pre-jobs and mark-up meetings.
  • Will attend and speak on behalf of the company for all tri-partite meetings with the BTC and owners.
  • Will be tasked with running any Labor Management meetings. 
  • Will help the site team with reporting requirements when it comes to union craft.
  • Will help coach up all site members on agreement and union requirements including the handling and implementation of said agreement. 
  • May be required to travel from time to time to assist with other labor issues within the company.
  • Will be tasked with attending all meetings related to said project including owner labor meetings and local BTC meetings which may include travel.
  • Will be expected to be at their respective site until tasked otherwise. 
  • May be tasked with collecting wage sheets and other data in order to assess upcoming work or Labor Surveys.

Preferred Qualifications

4-year college degree preferred.  Industrial construction experience preferred; Similar experience dealing with labor agreements, local union halls, and/or large teams of directly hired union craft preferred.

  • Experience dealing with Unions
  • Experience with Union Contracts
  • Solid writing skills
  • This person must have the ability to deal with multiple personalities of differing prefessional levels and to handle difficult interpersonal situations
  • Understanding of construction.

Minimum Qualifications

3+ years relevant experience; Bachelor's Degree in Labor Relations is equivalent to the experience requirement.

Union Apprenticeship Program completion preferred; Current or past union member preferred.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

Physical Demands:

  • Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds. 
  • Stand, Kneel, Bend, Stoop, Move, and Walk long distances in and around confined, cluttered places, and uneven areas.
  • See and hear naturally or with correction.   
  • Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with requirements of the job duties. 
  • Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls according to a set procedure. 
  • Requires repetitive movement. 
  • May require work above 5 feet in height.
  • Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds. 
  • Work up to a 12 hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions. 


Work Environment:

  • Typical construction site environment:  
  • Requires working in cramped work spaces and getting into awkward positions. 
  • Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32F degrees) temperatures and exposure to inclement weather such as dust, wind, snow, rain, etc. 
  • Requires working in extremely bright or low lighting conditions 
  • Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. 
  • Work around hazardous equipment.
  • Typical office environment.
