The Opportunity
We are pleased to share this opportunity for an Assistant Director of Finance on the Bird Finance Team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Be responsible for broad business-related issues and collaborating with subject matter experts at BV and on the Bird team to address expansive financial and operational functions including but not limited to monthly management reporting that includes analysis of financial performance, variance explanations, process, policy and best practice
- Serves as the trusted business influencer to management related to financial insight and performance
- Advise, mentor, and support project accounting activities in accordance with accounting standards, company policy and procedures for financial reporting
- Support client audits, ad hoc requests and special projects as assigned
This role involves working in a fast-paced environment offering opportunities to engage in a diverse range of business activities. Works under general direction of the Finance Director- Bird. Some travel required (25%).
Key Responsibilities
Cash Management:
Oversees cash collections for assigned group by actively communicating aging risk to project management to determine necessary collection actions. Communicates with clients regarding past due invoices. Monitors internal reporting of past dues for compliance and follows up with project accountants and division leaders as necessary. Drives effective cash management and risk management.
Financial Analysis:
Summarizes, reviews, and provides recommendations of significant impact based on project financial results. Provides ad hoc financial research, analysis, and solutions to primary internal clients. Demonstrates professional skepticism to identify areas of concern.
Financial Reporting:
Reviews assigned projects and/or business areas income statement for accuracy; reporting, analysis and variance explanation for projects; identifies and communicates financial risk & opportunities. Responsibility and management correspond with interactions of primary internal clients.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
Leads budget & forecast for assigned project portfolio or program. Develops and reviews financial models. Assists in development of financial targets. Identifies risk and opportunities to the plan. Provides oversight and review of financial inputs and metrics. Reviews work of team and advises staff throughout forecast process. Initiates strategic discussions with management based on anticipated results.
Analyzes project and/or business area budget & forecast; reports on key variances; conduct root cause analysis; offers suggestions/solutions to management.
Projects:
Reviews the structures of projects opened in their assigned business areas. Consults with Corporate subject matter experts to minimize exposure.
Communicates financial information to management for assigned project(s) and/or business area(s). Identifies and communicates material variances, conducts root cause analysis, offers solutions. Identifies and communicates material variances.
Acts as trusted business influencer to project team and/or business area, partners with project controls to manage project financial information, serves as finance point of contact. Shares insights with management. Helps drive strategic thinking for the business by providing recommendations for decision making.
Collaborates with Bird Electric and BV leaders regarding commercial, legal, insurance, IT and staffing matters.
Supervisory & Resource Management:
As a manager, provides direction to an assigned group. Typically oversees performance and workload management, career planning, recognition, learning and development. Aligns individual goals with that of division and corporation. Identifies, evaluates, and addresses training needs to prepare for staff growth and development. Supports fluidity and movement of team's development across the finance organization. May participate in disciplinary actions, employee relations and workforce planning.
Identifies and assesses improvement opportunities which will add value. Champions continuous improvement efforts. Drives a consistent simplified solution for the finance organization. Assesses and supports the change management effects associated with the implementation of improvements. Proactively supports, encourages, and facilitates staff to engage in continuous improvement activities.
Supports integration efforts where necessary moving business processes or business applications in alignment with BV standard.
Ensures key business processes such as Accounts Payable, Payroll, Billing, Treasury, Tax, FP&A and Project Accounting are managed, staffed and developed appropriately.
Develop business acumen and employee ownership mindset throughout the Bird Electric organization.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent experience
- Typically, 12+ years related experience; supervisory experience required
- All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master Business Administration (MBA) or MS in Accounting, preferred
- Strong MS Excel, Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Access), Oracle, and B&V systems preferred
