Job Summary

The System Engineer serves for Black & Veatch (www.bv.com) in the areas of maintaining, configuring, and ensuring operational status of Server Hardware and Virtual Environment of healthcare software applications as part of the Biological Threat Reduction Program (BTRP).

Key Responsibilities #1
  1. Maintain, configure, and ensure operational status of healthcare software application’s Server Hardware and Virtual Environment; Perform system administration functions for healthcare software application’s Servers Infrastructure, including: management of user accounts, applying and configuring software updates, monitoring system logs;
  2. Manage and deploy Windows Server operating systems with a support of DNS, DHCP, GPO, WSUS, AD Domain Services, Printer Service, VM Manager and other core infrastructure components; Manage and maintain Hyper-V Virtualization platform, including configuring Hyper-V replication and live migration;
  3. Maintain Corporate Antivirus Management System SEPM for Servers and Workstations, including: installation of Antivirus client packages, definition bases updates, configuring exclusion policy, license management; Administer healthcare software application’s Web Sites and Services in Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS);
  4. Monitor, maintain and perform healthcare software application’s standard backup procedures for Virtual Environment components (VM, VHDX), including rotation of external storage media; Perform recovery procedure of healthcare software application’s Server Hardware and Virtual Environment components according to standard procedures;
  5. Apply patches/fixes provided by Developer/Open Source Portal Community to healthcare software components according to the procedure described by Developer/Open Source Portal Community; Manage and maintain healthcare software application’s Monitoring Systems, including Nagios XI and NetFlow Analyzer;
Key Responsibilities #2
  1. Perform troubleshooting in case of alerts from Monitoring Systems; Monitor network performance in Monitoring components and ensure system availability and reliability;
  2. Perform recovery procedures (replacement, configuration and installation) in case of failure of network devices and services according to application’s standard procedures; Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches and hot fixes;
  3. Perform configuration backups for network devices and services in case of modifications; Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting for network hardware, software, and other network problems; Configure monitoring of network devices in healthcare software application’s Monitoring System, including Nagios XI and NetFlow Analyzer;
  4. Maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security; monitoring includes scheduled SQL jobs and Windows tasks configured for healthcare software applications database maintenance on Servers; Perform recovery procedures in case of failure of SQL Servers, healthcare software applications databases, SQL replication components, and scheduled SQL jobs/Windows tasks for maintenance according to standard procedures;
  5. Travel within Thailand and other countries to conduct software implementation/deployment.

  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field required. 5-year work experience in the aforementioned fields;
    • Industry certifications and memberships is a plus (CCNA, MCSA etc.);
    • Good communications skills in written and verbal English;
    • Willingness to travel throughout Thailand and other countries;
    • Strong analytical, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills;
    • Ability to multi-task;
    • Ability to work in a team as well as independently:
    • Deep experience in system administration;
    • Fundamental knowledge of architecture and configuration of desktop server and operating systems;
    • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft operating platforms (Windows Server 2012 R2/2016/2019);
    • Strong knowledge of the Hyper-V virtualization;
    • Knowledge of N-tier architecture, Web Servers, and Internet technologies – Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS);
    • Basic knowledge of SSL certificates;
    • Strong knowledge of backup/recovery procedures and tools (such as PowerShell scripts and Veeam Backup);
    • Strong knowledge of system security (domain and local policies, firewall configuration);
    • Basic knowledge of antivirus protection (corporate level);
    • Basic understanding of Helpdesk software such as Spiceworks and linked plug-ins;
    • Proven hands-on network engineering experience;
    • Basic knowledge of the OSI or TCP/IP models;
    • Good knowledge of MS SQL Server administration (MS SQL Server 2008 R2 or higher);
    • Basic knowledge of T-SQL;
    • Experience with SQL backup and restore procedures;
    • Good understanding of the IT markets.
    Work Environment/Physical Demands

    Typical office environment Works under operational levels and deadlines. 

    Occasionally travelling to both domestic and international destinations to support the project.
