Job Summary

This position will function as a lead role within the Energy & Process Industries Business at Black & Veatch.
With minimal supervision, applies engineering techniques and analyses for problems and methods. Expands knowledge and skill set in area of discipline. May start to expand knowledge in other disciplines and/or functional areas. 

The position will focus on the electrical design for waste to energy projects in accordance with best practice and recognised design standards/codes of practice. Projects may include waste to energy, bio-energy, renewable energy and other power generation types.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities
•    Act of Point of contact with the UK team for interaction with other international Black &Veatch teams.
•    Interface management with UK leads to develop compatible engineering solutions for projects.
•    Input to the delivery of renewable energy project developments in accordance with the pre-defined budgets, deadlines and quality requirements.
•    Regularly and accurately reporting the status of projects to management. 
•    Be a key interface and manage the relationship with clients and contractors.
•    Add value, avoid/resolve issues, mitigate risks and manage project’s finances and contracts by applying robust project management practices and experience from previous projects. 
•    Participation to site visits and client meetings.
•    Disseminate knowledge and experiences to other team members and supporting the development of the team and team members. 

Key Skills/Competencies

•    Completely fluent speaker and writer in English at equal to first language level.
•    Full driving licence and ability to drive to project site locations UK wide if necessary.

Management Responsibilities

Acts in capacity of a "lead person." Does not have management responsibility for the people to whom they provide work direction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional recognition qualification such as Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) or similar institute/institution.

    Experience in the undertaking of assignments in some or all the following areas is desirable:  
  • Waste to energy or bio energy plant. Renewable energy plant. On or offshore wind, marine energy, solar, battery energy storage, other power generation types.
  • Integration of battery energy storage with wind and solar technologies.
  • Leading role in battery energy storage projects.  
  • Power systems studies.
  • Load flow analysis.
  • Grid connection studies and interface with TSO or DNO to obtain a connection agreement. 
  • A knowledge of CDM Principle Designer and Principle Contractors roles and duties.
  • Wider European electrical or power systems, or Grid Code knowledge. 
  • Preparation of tender documentation to support procurement activities including Invitation of Tender, Employer’s Requirements, Bills of Qualities.
  • Electrical infrastructure for industrial/power generation facilities. 
  • Electrical plant specification and layout.
  • Cabling requirements for landfall options.
  • Cable sizing calculations and analysis. 
  • Support to EIA/consenting submission including noise assessment, EMF assessment.
  • Input to project due diligence and owners engineer assignments. 
  • Site inspections during construction and commissioning.
  • Reviewing commissioning and plant acceptance tests. 

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 8 years related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Certifications

Professional recognition qualification such as Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) or similar institute/institution or be in active pursuit of such registration.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

Typical office environment: Sitting/standing, computer usage for extended periods of time. Speaking, Listening. Ability to utilize audio/video conferencing software for internal/external communication purposes.

May require travel to client/project sites. May require ability to rent/drive a vehicle requiring UK Driver's licence.
