Job Summary

The Sr. Origination Manager – Distributed Infrastructure will be responsible for the origination of solar photovoltaic, wind, energy storage, CHP, digital infrastructure and/or other infrastructure asset development projects and program opportunities with existing and new targeted clients. Projects may include intricate deal structures, an uncommon technology solution, and often a global component. This role will also provide guidance to other Sr. Origination Manager(s) and leadership in regard to market conditions, client demands, pipeline, growth and industry trends.

Reports to: Senior Projects Director

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of solar/wind/energy storage offtake origination for corporate/industrial/muni offtakers for renewable energy projects and/or portfolios of projects that Diode is developing from identifying/qualifying the Clients to an executed power purchase agreement, lease agreement or other offtake structure

  • Electricity regulatory analysis; understanding regional grid dynamics from both a technical and regulatory level in order to create a market hypothesis and revenue strategy for each project
  • Contract origination; managing a sales pipeline and executing on complex sales processes with off-takers
  • Commercial negotiation; negotiating terms and conditions of power purchase agreements, hedging agreements, and interconnection or other ISO agreements to protect the commercial sensitivities of each deal
  • Deal execution; Closing and financing each new deal

• Responsible for Client relationship and management.

• Identification, quantification, and management of risks for the offtakers within the expectations of Sr. Leadership, equity investors, and lenders.

• Leadership of regularly scheduled meetings to coordinate broad communication of offtake events, issues, and challenges across an integrated, multidisciplinary team of colleagues.

• Assist in driving Client decisions and prioritizing resources within Diode, based on a deep understanding of schedule dependencies and economic impact.

• Manage third parties such as legal resources to ensure project success.

• Build on and improve strategy for identification of corporate and industrial offtakers of Diode’s renewable portfolio both domestically and globally.

• Conduct due-diligence and analysis on new Clients to ensure meet minimal requirements for third party investors.

• Coordinate with finance team to supply and review project finance model inputs on PPA pricing.

• Create/update Client contact software on status of negotiations.

Management Responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience with offtake agreements (PPAs, VPPAs, leases) for corporate/industrial Clients and knowledge of power marketing aspects of renewable energy.
  • Successful track record of understanding complex offtake structures in renewable energy.
  • ISO/RTO market experience such as ERCOT, PJM, SPP, MISO, and WECC.
  • Extensive knowledge of the full-cycle of renewable power generation and distributed generation.
  • Deep network of corporate clients interested in renewables and Distributed Infrastructure
  • Proactively anticipates and finds solutions to potential problems.
  • Solid understanding of economic drivers within our business.
  • Concisely frame issues by providing context, analysis, recommendations and risk/benefit tradeoffs, both in written and verbal format, to project teams and to senior management.
  • Strong understanding of the Client external relationships and who within the organization has buying power (not just evaluators).
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite tools, including Microsoft Project.
  • Independent self-starter who can meet deadlines and deliver quality products with minimal oversight.
  • Substantial ability to recognize opportunities, identify and evaluate risks in an origination context as well as effectively communicate the foregoing.
  • Ability to manage a fast moving, large workload, often providing support to processes managed by colleagues, while prioritizing tasks and effectively juggling competing deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong sense of personal responsibility and ownership of work product.
  • Excellent personal organizational and pattern recognition skills.
  • Has an ability to effectively communicate complex ideas.
  • Has the ability and enthusiasm to drive projects forward.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:  Bachelor's Degree in related field required, MBA or advanced degree  preferred.

Experience:  5+ years’ experience in one or more of each of the following areas:

  • Renewables
  • Energy Origination
  • Digital Infrastructure Origination
  • Commodities Hedging and Trading

Experience negotiating commercial elements of offtake agreements

Creative, independent thinker; demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a diverse team

Knowledge of wholesale power markets.

Solid understanding of energy project economics, and quantitative analysis.
