The Opportunity
The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Engineering Technician 7, performs functions requiring advanced knowledge and use of electronic applications, standards, and document control processes/procedures in support of creating or modifying deliverables.
In this role you will have the opportunity to:
- Lead the BIM Coordinator Engineering Technicians within the Federal Virtual Design & Data Solutions department.
- Provide BIM specific technical guidance to the BIM team and other project technical staff.
- Review BIM related technology and assist with implementation to project execution staff.
The Team
The Black & Veatch Special Projects Corp. has its mission to provide a full range of services to our primary client base - U.S. Government agencies and departments. Our primary areas of focus are: Architecture/Engineering (A/E) Services, Defense Program, Design/Build, Classified, and Environmental.
Key Responsibilities
Discipline Management:
Assist with staffing & forecasting efforts of the BIM Coordinators, utilizing Tempus, for the discipline technicians.
Lead efforts to review & implement new discipline specific processes and tools, as needed.
Assist with developing proposals for discipline technician hours.
Work with the VDDS Leader to drive training strategy and development of skills within the discipline team.
Provide or facilitate on-going training sessions to discipline team.
Assist with development and maintenance of discipline best practices for BIM/CIM tools and processes.
Provide discipline level QA/QC on drawings and models to help ensure quality within the discipline.
Coordinate overall discipline processes with the appropriate discipline engineering team.
Lead discipline projects, as needed, to sustain billability.
Engineering Standards:
Provide guidance and direction by utilizing knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes and Black and Veatch policies and procedures
Reviews project requirements and accurately determine the correct format and contents of the required deliverables
Quality / Continuous Improvement:
Promotes quality within the BIM technician section
Reviews design inputs in order to ensure consistency
Assists to ensure deliverables are in compliance with the specific codes and standards suitable for the project
Responsible for drawing control and historical records, utilizing the appropriate method, as established by the project
Demonstrates personal accuracy and drives continual improvement and change management efforts
Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology:
May assist discipline or department management in developing and communicating appropriate design standards and process improvement activities
Identify training and development needs for personnel they supervise
May be recognized for expertise in one or more areas
People Management - (supervision - career development - developing professionals, mentoring):
Typically assists with functions including performance management process, recognition, and corrective actions
Participate in career planning and learning and development of discipline technicians
Supervises engineering technicians, including mentoring, instructing, delegation of work and providing feedback
Resource Management - (staffing):
Assists in monitoring staffing levels and available skill sets for project(s)
Assists in identifying resource application needs and process requirements

Preferred Qualifications
Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred
Typically a minimum of 8 years related work experience

Ability to use the appropriate electronic applications and programs required for performing assignments
Include but not limited to BIM/CAD, other electronic applications, information modeling and document storage systems
Advanced knowledge of engineering standards, systems, document control, departmental guides and Black and Veatch policies and procedures
Intermediate industry knowledge and technology trends
Intermediate knowledge of company quality program
Advanced ability to interpret engineering deliverable content as assigned
Advanced knowledge of other disciplines
Basic knowledge of construction and constructability practices and principles
Basic knowledge of management techniques and company/division HR programs, policies, procedures, and organization structure
