Job Summary
Functions in an engineering technician capacity. Under general direction, modify or create deliverables and may perform assignments of a design nature by applying basic engineering principles and established design practices to develop moderately complex design concepts. Provide technical guidance and may provide direction to other engineering professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare design drawings, including pipe routing drawings, P&ID’s and pipe support drawings.
- Performs piping design calculations, detailed material quantities and estimates, and records in Power Plant
- Apply basic engineering principles and established design practices in developing moderately complex design concepts and deliverables
- Begins to apply judgment and make decisions with respect to deliverables and input interpretation
- Capable of handling difficult technical assignments on piping design and can provide technical guidance to other professionals
- May review the deliverables of others and provide mentoring and leadership
- May define work assignments and maintain schedules and may support field activities
- May program control systems or participate in other plant start-up activities associated with a Piping Design Area
- Conduct self-checks of created drawings, sketches, and related data to proactively identify factors that may negatively affect final product
- Work independently of engineers but confer with engineers and other designers for design concept interpretation. Support engineers with any changes to drawings
- Applies knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes follow Black and Veatch’s policies and procedures
- Review project requirements and accurately determine the correct format and contents of the required deliverables and design inputs in order to ensure consistency
- Proactively applies Black and Veatch Quality Program to deliverables
- Demonstrates personal accuracy and supports continuous improvement and change management efforts
- Assists to ensure deliverables are in compliance with the specific codes and standards suitable for the project
- Coordinates with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development
- Focuses on the needs of internal clients while utilizing an understanding of external client's main interests and drivers #LI-RK1
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Mechanical engineering or related engineering fields.
- Minimum of 5 years related work experience on Piping Design
- Experience in Pipe Routing for Power Plant projects or related projects.
- 5 years of 3D design experience in a technical software platform such as SmartPlant 3D, AVEVA E3D or AutoCAD Plant3D, if familiar with Bentley Tools, Open Plant Modeler, MicroStation, AutoCAD and Navisworks will be an advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Adobe/Bluebeam, and Document Control Systems.
- Good Command in English both speaking and writing
- Good communication skills and personal presence for internal and external client interactions
- Willingness to travel and multi-task to meet tight timelines while working independently with minimal supervision
