Job Summary

Functions in an engineering technician capacity. Under general direction, modify or create deliverables and may perform assignments of a design nature by applying basic engineering principles and established design practices to develop moderately complex design concepts. Provide technical guidance and may provide direction to other engineering professionals

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare design drawings, including pipe routing drawings, P&ID’s and pipe support drawings.
  • Performs piping design calculations, detailed material quantities and estimates, and records in Power Plant
  • Apply basic engineering principles and established design practices in developing moderately complex design concepts and deliverables
  • Conduct self-checks of created drawings, sketches, and related data to proactively identify factors that may negatively affect final product.
  • Begins to start working independently of engineers but confer with engineers and other designers for design concept interpretation. Support engineers with any changes to drawings
  • Applies knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes follow Black and Veatch’s policies and procedures.
  • Review project requirements and accurately determine the correct format and contents of the required deliverables.
  • Demonstrates personal accuracy and supports continuous improvement and change management efforts.
  • Ensure deliverables are in compliance with the specific codes and standards suitable for the project. Proactively applies Black and Veatch Quality Program to deliverables.
  • Coordinates with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development.
  • May support field activities. 
  • Focuses on the needs of internal clients while utilizing an understanding of external client's main interests and drivers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or related engineering fields
  • Minimum of 1 year related work experience on Piping Design
  • Experience in Pipe Routing for Power Plant projects or related fields.
  • Minimum 1 year of 3D design experience in a technical software platform such as SmartPlant 3D, AVEVA E3D or AutoCAD Plant3D, if familiar with Bentley Tools, Open Plant Modeler, MicroStation, AutoCAD and Navisworks will be an advantage.
  • Experience in Microsoft Suite, Adobe/Bluebeam, and Document Control Systems.
  • Good Command in English both speaking and writing
  • Good communication skills and personal presence for internal and external client interactions
  • Willingness to travel and multi-task to meet tight timelines while working independently with minimal supervision
  • Basic understanding of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline.
  • Basic knowledge of EPC Infrastructure (Power Plant, Utilities, Renewable etc.) or Oil GAS.
  • Willing and able to travel or work at construction sites as required.#LI-RK1

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
