Job Summary

As a Construction Superintendent, you will play a key role in leading field execution and supporting safe, high-quality project delivery. In this role, you will work closely with direct-hire supervision, subcontractor leadership, field engineering, and construction management to ensure project expectations are clearly communicated and successfully achieved. You will help drive craft productivity, schedule performance, quality standards, and safety compliance while providing the technical direction and field coordination needed to keep work progressing efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Construction Manager in promoting and maintaining strong adherence to Black & Veatch safety, quality, ethical standards, lessons learned, and performance management programs.
  • Report inappropriate conduct or safety concerns involving site personnel to the Construction Manager and Project Safety Manager.
  • Monitor, verify, and report construction activities to ensure alignment with the CPM schedule, project milestones, and commodity installation progress.
  • Partner with craft teams, subcontractors, superintendents, and field engineering to resolve issues related to drawings, schedule, quality, quantity tracking, cost reporting, and safety.
  • Track discipline-specific productivity, progress, and cost performance, and communicate updates to the Construction Manager and Field Project Controls Manager.
  • Take proactive action to help maintain project targets for safety, quality, schedule, productivity, and cost.
  • Apply Black & Veatch standards, procedures, and lessons learned in a practical and consistent manner across assigned work areas.
  • Communicate field issues and new lessons learned to support continuous improvement and future project execution.
  • Lead foreman and subcontractor planning meetings to support daily, weekly, and monthly work execution.
  • Develop and monitor the three-week look-ahead schedule for assigned work scope.
  • Create corrective action plans to help ensure progress and productivity goals are met.
  • Confirm that required materials, manpower, equipment, and resources are available to support scheduled work.
  • Develop, monitor, and report on craft and subcontractor punch list completion.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs and site records to support project documentation.
  • Review craft and subcontractor timesheets, installed quantity reports, progress payment requests, and supplier technical service representative logs and timesheets.
  • Coordinate daily and weekly work plans with assigned craft teams, subcontractors, discipline superintendents, facilitators, and the Construction Manager.
  • Monitor assigned subcontractors for compliance with subcontract scope, schedule requirements, and project expectations.
  • Build effective working relationships with assigned subcontractors to support collaboration and field execution.
  • Support the Field Subcontract Administrator in preparing extra work authorization requests, including RFMPs and work authorizations.
  • Assist the Construction Engineer with compiling and responding to Contractor Information Requests.
  • Compile and respond to Contractor Information Requests when required.
  • Oversee execution of work packages and equipment installation within assigned scope.
  • Develop and distribute Job Hazard Analyses for major erection packages within assigned scope.
  • Identify potential back charges and out-of-scope items, and escalate them to the Construction Manager as appropriate.
  • Support commercial recovery efforts through timely issue identification, documentation, and coordination.
  • Provide work direction, coaching, training, development, and performance feedback to assigned team members, as applicable.
  • Maintain strong adherence to applicable safety and quality standards in all assigned duties and accountabilities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and help implement change management activities associated with process improvements.
  • Act in a supervisory capacity by providing work direction while understanding that formal people management responsibilities may vary by assignment.
  • Supervise or coordinate direct-hire general foremen, foremen, subcontractors, superintendents, and field engineers on construction management projects.

Minimum Qualifications

5+ years experience of construction field leadership on equivalent projects. Valid Driver's License. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Certifications

OSHA 10 certification.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

Physical Demands:
• Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds. 
• Stand, Kneel, Bend, Stoop, Move, and Walk long distances in and around confined, cluttered places, and uneven areas.
• See and hear naturally or with correction.   
• Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with requirements of the job duties. 
• Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls according to a set procedure. 
• Requires repetitive movement. 
• May require work above 5 feet in height.
• Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds. 
• Work up to a 12 hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions. 

Work Environment:
• Typical construction site environment:  
• Requires working in cramped work spaces and getting into awkward positions. 
• Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32F degrees) temperatures and exposure to inclement weather such as dust, wind, snow, rain, etc. 
• Requires working in extremely bright or low lighting conditions 
• Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. 
• Work around hazardous equipment.
• Typical office environment.
• This position is considered a safety sensitive position.
