The Senior Project Manager position is a high-profile leadership role at Black & Veatch. In this capacity, this professional will serve as part of the Water / Wastewater business leadership team.  As part of the Northeast Americas collaborative team, they will be responsible for managing the successful delivery of water related infrastructure projects in the multi-million-dollar range.  

Responsibilities include financial performance, planning, schedule, quality, and safety. A key responsibility will also be to lead sales and marketing efforts with other Client Directors, Water Business Lines and Project Managers by working collaboratively with the design engineering execution team and clients to ensure satisfaction with team performance, project milestones and client expectations.  Projects within the purview of this position will span from conceptual planning, across preliminary and final design, to construction phase support and construction management for water, wastewater, stormwater and related water resource facilities; pumping stations and distribution and conveyance systems. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manages larger Clients and Project Managers who are responsible for all aspects of a small to medium portfolio of water projects with multiple clients, including risk to cost, schedule, quality.  Responsible for the day-to-day successful execution of all aspects of the clients and projects.  This would include engineering, procurement, and construction scope, financial metrics, planning, schedule, quality, contractual compliance, safety, and client satisfaction.
  • Responsible to work with business leaders to identify staffing needs and staff projects for success.  Directly supervises Project Managers who manage smaller to medium size project team.  The individuals comprising this team may vary by project
  • Responsible for leading some new/repeat business on small to medium size projects with some oversight from Area and Managing Directors; supports contract negotiations with client personnel.
  • Responsible for overseeing Project Managers that will lead small to medium size teams of multi-discipline professionals. Coordinates and integrates the activities associated with the engineering, procurement, construction, and startup elements of the project team, including the activities of all third-party companies contributing to the initiative.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 15 years of Water Industry and Leadership Experience
  • Business Development - Identifies client requirements. Develops and maintains relationships with clients. Conducts market research. Writes and presents project estimates and proposals including scope, cost, and schedule according to client requirements and bid processes. 
  • Business Acumen - Negotiates contract commercial terms. Manages project budgets, costs, and receivables. Manages contracts and legal issues. Analyzes and reports health metrics as a basis for improvement. Applies knowledge of policies and regulations to project scope. Builds relationships with key stakeholders. Applies value creation.
  • Execution - Uses B&V project management phases & methodology including, project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring & control, and closeout to direct work. Manages changes and risk on scope, cost, schedule, quality, and safety based on available resources and client requirements. Manages constructability and procurement. Manages warranty plan.
  • Leadership - Communicates clear expectations, goals, and vision. Manages performance of direct reports. Motivates, coaches, and mentors professionals. Delegates project work. Practices behaviors supporting diversity and inclusion. Manages conflict and collaboration to achieve results.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of science degree.
