Job Summary

The Construction Execution Manager is responsible for supporting the growth, planning, and delivery of Black & Veatch's Construction Management and Construction Services projects across Western Canada. This seller-doer role combines business development support, construction execution planning, project startup activities, and site leadership responsibilities for industrial, power generation, energy, mining, and infrastructure projects.

 

 

The Construction Execution Manager works with project development, engineering, estimating, and project management teams to develop construction strategies, execution plans, staffing plans, contracting approaches, and site readiness programs during pursuit and project development phases. Upon project award, the Construction Execution Manager supports mobilization and transitions into a field leadership role, serving as the Site Manager or senior construction representative for assigned projects.

 

 

The role is focused on Construction Management, EPCM, and Owner's Representative delivery models where Black & Veatch provides construction leadership, oversight, and management services on behalf of project owners.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Pursuit Support

  • Support business development and client engagement activities throughout Western Canada.
  • Participate in project pursuits, proposal development, client presentations, and interviews.
  • Develop construction execution strategies and delivery approaches that support successful project pursuits.
  • Support preparation of construction staffing plans, indirect estimates, execution schedules, and risk assessments.
  • Assist with development of construction service offerings and market growth initiatives.

 

 

Construction Planning & Project Development

  • Lead development of Construction Execution Plans, Construction Management Plans, and site execution strategies.
  • Develop construction organization charts, staffing plans, and site mobilization strategies.
  • Support contract packaging strategies and construction work packaging development.
  • Facilitate constructability reviews, execution planning workshops, and risk assessments.
  • Develop site logistics plans, temporary facilities requirements, field organization plans, and project controls requirements.
  • Support development of project schedules, construction sequencing plans, outage strategies, and brownfield execution plans.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, commissioning, and operations stakeholders to ensure construction readiness.

 

Project Startup & Mobilization

  • Lead construction readiness and project startup activities following project award.
  • Support site establishment, mobilization planning, contractor onboarding, and stakeholder alignment activities.
  • Assist with contractor bid evaluations, pre-award reviews, and execution planning activities.
  • Establish field procedures, reporting systems, communication plans, and construction management processes.
  • Support development of safety, quality, turnover, and work execution programs.

 

Construction Management Leadership

  • Mobilize to project sites as assigned and assume Site Manager, Deputy Site Manager, or Construction Manager responsibilities.
  • Provide construction leadership and coordination throughout project execution.
  • Manage contractor interfaces and construction performance related to safety, quality, schedule, and productivity.
  • Coordinate project stakeholders including owners, contractors, engineering, commissioning, and operations personnel.
  • Support mechanical completion, turnover, commissioning, startup, and project closeout activities.
  • Provide regular project reporting and performance assessments to project and construction leadership.
  • Assist in development of mitigation and recovery plans when project performance deviates from established objectives.
  • Prepare field reports, progress updates, risk summaries, and construction metrics for project leadership.
  • Support system walkdowns, mechanical completion, turnover, commissioning, and startup activities. These responsibilities are consistent with construction coordination, contractor oversight, schedule management, field issue resolution, and owner-support functions described in BV-style site management roles.

Management Responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with power generation, gas-fired generation, carbon capture, mining, industrial processing, or major infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in brownfield operating facilities and outage-based execution environments.
  • Experience serving as a Site Manager, Construction Manager, General Superintendent, or Owner's Representative.
  • Knowledge of union and non-union construction environments.
  • Strong background in construction execution planning, constructability, and project startup activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent construction experience.
  • Ten (10+) years of industrial construction, construction management, or EPCM project experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing construction execution plans and field implementation strategies.
  • Experience supporting project pursuits, proposals, and client-facing activities.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary construction activities on industrial, energy, power, mining, or infrastructure projects.
  • Working knowledge of contractor management, scheduling, project controls, risk management, and construction contract administration.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and client relationship skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and mobilize to project sites throughout North America.

In accordance with local law, the following Annual compensation range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition: $180,000.00 CAD - $220,000.00 CAD
