Job Summary

As part of B&V’s Legal Risk Management & Government Affairs Division, reporting to the Regional Senior Counsel, the paralegal will be expected to work collegiately with B&V professionals of all disciplines in B&V’s Beijing office and closely with B&V lawyers based in Singapore and more widely, on a variety of legal tasks that relate to the company’s businesses across Asia, including China.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review a variety of simple contracts written in Mandarin Chinese and/or English. These may include engineering consultancy contracts, non-disclosure agreements, property leases, and purchaser orders.
  • Assist project and proposal teams across Asia to comply with administrative requirements set out in customer tender documents, such as internal processes relating to powers of attorney, officer certificates and other documents required for the business.
  • Assist B&V lawyers based in Singapore in managing external law firms in China.
  • Assist with managing administrative and documentary support to B&V lawyers based in Singapore on litigation and compliance matters.
  • Handle corporate secretarial tasks for Black & Veatch in Asia, including preparation and procurement of execution of B&V powers of attorney and board resolutions, and the safekeeping and processing of use of company seals.
  • Assist B&V’s Beijing office management in B&V’s Beijing Office on administrative matters, such as reviewing purchase orders for office procurement, preparing legal notices, and applying for and renewing local engineering and business licenses.
  • Assist B&V’s Beijing office management in regard to secure storage, organization and accessibility of original B&V documents in Beijing.
  • Be comfortable to assist B&V professionals in regard to translating documents from Mandarin Chinese to English and vice versa as needed, where applicable using B&V’s external translation providers.
  • Oversee the management of and keep up to date, B&V’s online digital records for its companies in Asia, as required from time to time in accordance with B&V systems and policies.

Minimum Qualifications
  • University graduate. Legal major is preferred.
  • 2-years’ prior experience in working as a paralegal for a multi-national company in China.
  • Familiarity with commercial business software (Microsoft), emails and document management.
  • Prior experience in working for a construction or engineering company, or a major equipment supplier, would be an advantage.
  • A good command of the English language particularly as used in commercial transactions.
  • Familiarity with international travel and willingness to make business trips if required.
