The Opportunity

Black & Veatch has an exciting opportunity for a Resilience Planning Leader focused on hazard mitigation, disaster preparedness and recovery, and climate adaptation/resilience planning throughout the United States. This leader will be a prominent ambassador for BV's resilience practice; support business development, will provide technical expertise and guidance to projects, and will support, catalyze, and unify our regional resiliency leaders to form a seamless national team that fuels the growth of our resilience initiative. 

 

With a focus on developing BV’s presence in the resilience market, this leader will consult directly with new and existing clients to strategize and implement climate adaptation/ mitigation, vulnerability assessments, hazard mitigation planning, coastal and sea level rise strategies, and resilient infrastructure system solutions.  This leader will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to guide the development of solutions for a variety of municipal, utility, state, and governmental clients, leveraging familiarity with state and local programs as well as FEMA, USACE, HUD CDBG, FERC, DOE and other Federal agencies. 

The Team

Within our U.S. Business, we have seen consistent growth driven by our clients’ needs to address challenges/risks stemming from climate change, increasing system vulnerabilities, coastal impacts and sea level rise, aging infrastructure, resource optimization, emergency response, carbon sequestration, risk mitigation and recovery.  We anticipate increased focus on coastal protection and infrastructure hardening, systems thinking and planning, sustainable and resilient strategies, and nature-based solutions.  This role represents a strategic business initiative for Black & Veatch, and the position is designed to help the company grow its market share by providing world-class resilience planning, design, and implementation services. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Resilience Planning Leader 
  • Provide thought leadership, engage with the external community, and serve as a National Resilience Planning subject matter expert, bringing expertise with funding, economics, disaster recovery, and resilient infrastructure   
  • Provide support to the team as it relates to USACE coordination/integration with local government coastal flood protection objectives   
  • Engage directly with new and existing clients to develop new business for BV 
  • Facilitate and orchestrate client and stakeholder workshops 
  • Engage with and guide the development of Resilience Planning solutions/ studies/ projects 
  • Gain industry interest in innovate Netherlands water management strategies including community engagement charettes to inform acceptable adaptation strategies. 
  • Support recruitment, mentorship, and growth of the team to broaden resilience-related capabilities 
  • Cultivate innovative partnerships to leverage new technologies and approaches 
  • Coordinate business development and strategy implementation with a diverse network across BV including Client Directors/Project Managers in the region and Solution Leads from Planning, Environmental, Federal, Heavy Civil infrastructure, and Alternative Funding. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, science, economics or relevant field from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing
  • Minimum 25 years of related work experience
  • 25+ years of planning, design, and implementation experience related to resilience, disaster preparedness & recovery, coastal and sea level rise impacts 
  • Experience in a client organization and/or client-facing role 
  • Demonstrated success in business development and overall initiative leadership 
  • Experience with Federal approaches and tools to assess risks and provide hazard mitigation, climate adaptation, disaster recovery, and resilience strategic planning and implementation 
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local funding sources related to resilience 

Minimum Qualifications
