Job Summary

Technical lead for thermal technologies. 
Role includes: Staying abreast of market developments and relevant players; taking a leading technical role in all BioEnergy projects; conducting and overseeing technical due diligence, feasibility studies, design, specification and implementation works. Working with various business development personnel and the department head to support business development activities; identify and grow client relationships and preparation of tender responses. 

We seek an individual who has proven commitment to working in the low carbon sector, particularly within the bioenergy space and with the commensurate client exposure within this target market. 

Key Responsibilities

Key Duties:
• Technical authority, oversight and governance.
• Undertaking technical due diligence, feasibility studies, design and specification of processes and equipment for renewable energy projects.
• Assist the project management personnel and the Head of BioEnergy to effectively manage several renewable energy projects concurrently to time and budget constraints (involving management of c. 5-10 staff to deliver these projects).
• To manage and work alongside other professionals in inter-department multi-disciplinary teams.
• To prepare technical and non-technical reports.
• To take a role in and manage various business development activities/ tender initiatives.
• To contribute to expanding the client base and support on managing relationships with key clients.
• Representing B&V at exhibitions and conferences.
• Ofgem audits.
• Stay abreast of market developments and relevant players.

• English as a first language / completely fluent speaker and writer at equal to first language level.

• Well developed technical skills and experience.

 Establishing and keeping key client relationships.
 Consulting/Technical Due Diligence in low carbon thermal technologies.
 Contracting and Construction: Tendering, Equipment identification and purchase, Solution integration, Installation and contract implementation through to completion.
 Commissioning, testing and process optimisation.
The activities above are expected to be delivered against some or all of the following areas: 
• WTE and Bio-energy fuels / conversion and uses:
 Fuel characterisation and configuration.
 Reception, storage and handling.
 Grates/fluidised bed combustion, boiler.
 Flue gas treatment.
 Ash handling and treatment.
• Landfill and landfill gas extraction with gas engines:
• Advanced thermal treatment and advanced conversion technology) including gasification, pyrolysis and torrefaction.
• Transport fuels (bioethanol and other alcohols; biodiesel; development fuels) from biogenic feedstocks.
• Waste handling and treatment (Sorting, Pre-treatment, Anaerobic Digestion, etc.);
• Industrial Heat Recovery and Use.
• Hydrogen production and utilisation + stationary fuel cells.

Flexible working will be considered for this role.

Minimum Qualifications

Degree in Engineering, Sciences or equivalent qualification.

Preferred Qualifications

• MSc or equivalent in a related subject area for low carbon thermal /bioenergy technologies.
• Professional recognition qualification such as Chartered Engineer. 
• Industry recognised organisation registration. 

Highly desirable to have experience in most of the following areas: 
• Combustion systems, including grates and fluidised bed (BFB, CFB).
• Water tube and fire tube boilers.
• Pyrolysis and gasification.
• Prime movers: gas turbines, steam turbines, gas engines.
• Organic Rankine cycle.
