Job Summary

The Craft Training Lead is responsible for guiding, developing, and coordinating craft training programs for Black & Veatch construction professionals. This role supports the strategic direction of the business line by planning, implementing, and maintaining high‑quality training programs that strengthen field performance, craft capability, and operational consistency.  As a key training leader, this role oversees and supports instructors across multiple disciplines, ensuring alignment in curriculum, delivery methods, and compliance with NCCER and internal training standards. The Craft Training Lead partners closely with Safety, HR, Quality, and project operations to identify training needs and create solutions. The role also supports staff‑training initiatives when required and drives a unified ONE B&V training approach across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Support
-Provide daily support to Training Specialists and instructors by helping coordinate schedules, materials, and training logistics.
-Assist with setting clear expectations for training tasks and help monitor progress and workload distribution.
-Offer basic coaching, guidance, and support to team members as they deliver training sessions.
-Help maintain consistency in program delivery across all training initiatives.
-Participate in team check‑ins, provide feedback, and help identify areas where team members may need additional support.
Curriculum & Content Support
-Assist in maintaining and updating training materials, job aids, presentations, and online learning modules.
-Support content development by formatting documents, organizing files, and helping trainers incorporate updates.
-Ensure all instructional materials are current, accurate, and accessible to trainers and learners.
Training Tracking, Evaluation & Process Improvement
-Gather learner feedback and assist with evaluations to help identify opportunities for improvement.
-Support continuous improvement efforts by documenting issues, reporting trends, and helping implement small enhancements.
-Assist in monitoring trainer performance by providing observations and updates to senior leaders when needed.
Collaboration & Communication
-Support communication between training teams and internal partners by sharing schedules, updates, and program information.
-Participate in meetings with Safety, HR, Quality, and Operations to ensure alignment of training content and delivery.
-Represent the training team professionally and contribute to a positive learning environment for staff and new hires.

Management Responsibilities

Supervises work of others. Responsible for hiring, discipline, and pay administration of their subordinates.

Minimum Qualifications

-Minimum of 5 years field execution experience.
-Knowledge of Black & Veatch construction execution procedures, processes and tools.
-Knowledge of NCCER training requirements.
-Presentation skills, communicates effectively.
-Experience developing, delivering, and coordinating craft or technical training programs in construction or industrial environments.
-Expertise with NCCER training standards and ability to obtain or maintain NCCER Instructor certifications.
-Strong understanding of construction operations, craft development, and field execution.
-Experience assembling communications, reporting documentation, and presentation materials.
-Ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams including HR, Safety, Quality, and Operations.
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
-Experience using Learning Management Systems (LMS) for tracking, reporting, and delivering training.
-Ability to create, edit, and deliver digital training materials using presentation, document, and spreadsheet tools.
-Familiarity with virtual training platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom, WebEx).
-Strong general computer literacy, including file management, digital communication, and basic troubleshooting

Preferred Qualifications

7+ years of experience supporting or delivering craft training programs;  field operations experience.
-Bachelor’s degree or equivalent construction experience (preferred but not required).
-NCCER instructor certification Preferred Competencies, Problem Solving, Project Management, Develops Talent 
-Experience working with construction craft labor, equipment operators, pipefitters, electricians, carpenters, or other skilled trades.
-Strong project coordination skills, including scheduling, planning, and resource tracking.
-Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design.
-Experience identifying training gaps and creating targeted development programs.
-Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
-Experience supporting large‑scale training initiatives across multiple business units.
-Bilingual abilities a plus.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

This position may require up to 30% travel to project sites, training centers, and division meetings.
