This is a high-level project position, which is accountable for implementing and maintaining the company's Loss Control Procedures. This position is typically assigned to a large complex project or a smaller project that may have particularly hazardous project scope.

Key Responsibilities

• Manages construction contractor safety and health program administration. Manages site safety, health, environmental, and security budgets. Implements, administers and maintains Drug and Alcohol Substance Abuse Program for a project. Develops and conducts employee safety and health training programs. Conducts site safety and health inspections and safety and health program audits. Ensures project safety and health documentation is complete and accurate. Conducts incident and injury/illness investigations. Writes detailed investigation and safety and health progress reports. Interfaces with clients and government officials. Administers project worker's compensation programs and procedures. Assists in development, management and implementation of project insurance programs and policies. Manages project security contracts, programs and policies. Develops, manages and implements project environmental programs and policies. May act as Safety and Health Consultant to internal and external clients. May act as emergency responder or incident commander. Provides supervision, training, development, and performance management of direct reports. Supports continuous improvement efforts and the change management effects associated with the implementation of improvements. 
• Supervises Safety and Health Intern, Safety and Health Specialist 1, 2, and 3, Safety and Health Manager 1.
• Acts as a project manager. Among responsibilities is management of a project team. The individuals comprising the team may vary by project.

Minimum Qualifications

5+ years in a construction environment, 5+ years safety and health experience All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum of 20 years of Environmental Safety and Health experience in heavy industrial construction. Expertise in managing ES&H programs in diverse industrial settings, including but not limited to shipyard operations, offshore platforms, LNG facilities, pipeline projects, power transmission installations, and mining. Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. In-depth knowledge of safety and health standards and best practices in various industrial environments. Familiarity with company substance abuse policies and procedures. Understanding of construction contracting strategies and contract administration. Knowledge of worker's compensation policies and procedures. Experience with insurance program administration, including owner-controlled and contractor-controlled insurance programs. Proficiency in project safety and health budgeting and cost control. Awareness of environmental laws and regulations, as well as company and client-specific programs and procedures. Knowledge of security risk and control processes and procedures. Ability to leverage company safety and health consultation capabilities and perform successfully as a consultant. Ability to effectively interface with clients and government officials. Strong communication skills to convey safety information clearly and effectively. Capacity to manage emergency situations, ensuring swift and effective responses. Proficient in word processing and spreadsheet software programs for documentation and reporting. Ability to write detailed reports that accurately convey safety incidents and initiatives. Human relations skills to foster a collaborative safety culture and resolve conflicts. Proven conflict management skills to address and diffuse safety-related issues effectively. 

Certifications

• Relevant certifications in environmental safety, health, or construction safety (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHST) are highly desirable.
• First Aid, CPR, Drug testing certified, OSHA 500, Safety and Health Program Administration, OSHA 10 hour

Work Environment/Physical Demands

Physical Demands:
• Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds. 
• Stand, Kneel, Bend, Stoop, Move, and Walk long distances in and around confined, cluttered places, and uneven areas.
• See and hear naturally or with correction.   
• Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with requirements of the job duties. 
• Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls according to a set procedure. 
• Requires repetitive movement. 
• May require work above 5 feet in height.
• Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds. 
• Work up to a 12 hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions.

• Requires working in cramped work spaces and getting into awkward positions. 
• Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32F degrees) temperatures and exposure to inclement weather such as dust, wind, snow, rain, etc. 
• Requires working in extremely bright or low lighting conditions 
• Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. 
• Work around hazardous equipment.
