Duties

Prepare a variety of moderately complex electrical engineering deliverables for water and wastewater treatment and conveyance facilities, including power distribution drawings, single-line diagrams, process equipment motor control and switchgear control schematics, power equipment layout and conduit routing plans, electrical equipment specifications, and electrical installation details.  Recognize, define and resolve problems associated with electrical design and construction at water and wastewater treatment and conveyance facilities. Conduct Energy Optimization, Power System Coordination and Arc Flash Hazard Analysis, and Electrical Reliability Analysis.  Inspect construction and resolve electrical construction issues.  Perform complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection for adjustable speed drives, motor starters/motor control centers, switchboards/switchgear, equipment motors, standby power equipment, transformers, and other electrical distribution gear and electrical control panels.  Collect, assimilate, and manage data for engineering work. Prepare complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles, including electrical power and short circuit analysis using SKM or ETAP analysis software. Perform all aspects of conventional design engineering and analysis.  Assign tasks to and coordinate with other internal/external team members on less complex projects.  Initiate contact with other disciplines as needed to identify and coordinate details of the work.  Coordinate power system capacity requirements, load conditions, and service requirements with electric utilities and provide service to water/wastewater facilities.  Broaden knowledge and skill set in area of discipline.  Expand knowledge in other disciplines and/or functional areas.  Continue to learn and remain current on departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black & Veatch policies and procedures and apply to assigned tasks as appropriate.  Understand and adhere to budget, schedule, and quality requirements.  Actively seek to understand client interests and drivers through normal client contact and through interaction and communication with project leadership.  Apply an understanding of client interests and drivers to their own behavior and performance of the work under his responsibility.  Provide support to business development or pursuit activities.  Share current knowledge of latest technology and processes.  No hire/fire authority.  Applicants for this position must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require employer sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (i.e., H-1B visa, TN visa or any other non-immigrant status).

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline plus 3 years of related experience.  Must have experience developing electrical design and analysis for low and medium voltage systems including P&C one-lines, Power Distribution one-lines, AC-DC schematics, Wiring Diagrams, Design concepts, Cable and Conduit layouts, Cable and Conduit schedules and sizing, Power Plans, Panel elevations and schedules, Load calculations, Electrical Equipment sizing and Specification development,  Wiring and Interconnection Diagrams, Power system analysis, Network and Communication design, Knowledge on NFPA 70, and National Electric Code.  Must have experience with power system studies including Load flow analysis, Short Circuit study, OCPD coordination, and arc-flash analysis using SKM or similar power systems software.  15% national travel required.  Telecommuting is permissible within a reasonable commuting distance from the Dallas, TX BV office.  Must have good written and verbal communications skills in English.
