Job Summary

Responsible for coordination and on-site execution of construction on the project, or on assigned portions of a larger project. Coordinates compliance with the schedule, safety, cost, and quality decisions in conjunction with the Project Superintendent, or Project Manager as applicable.  

This position is to identify talent interested in working on Data Center projects on site in AZ, IA, TX, WA or WY.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implements the Project Construction Execution Plan in coordination with Project Team.  Directs staff as applicable in the daily, weekly planning process.
  • On larger projects, communicates and coordinates assigned craft/subcontractor(s) daily and weekly work plans in conjunction with the Project Superintendent.
  • Monitors and reports on assigned subcontractor(s) for compliance with subcontract scope and schedule performance (including trends) to the Project Superintendent or Project Manager, as applicable.  Takes actions necessary to meet project budget and schedule requirements.
  • Develops a stable working relationship with assigned subcontractor(s).
  • Assists craft/subcontractors/superintendents in resolving problems and reports on issues related to drawings and information, schedule, quality, quantity tracking, cost reporting, and safety.
  • Supports Superintendent and/or Project Manager in the review of craft/subcontractor timesheets, installed quantity reports, and progress payment requests.
  • Reviews and approves equipment rentals (if supplied by company) and coordinates shared use of this equipment with subcontractors.
  • Conducts weekly coordination meeting with subcontractors.
  • Conducts weekly subcontractor meetings, or on larger projects assists Project Superintendent in conducting these meetings.
  • Develops and monitors 3 Week Look Ahead Schedule for assigned work scope.
  • Verifies that all material, manpower and other resources needed to support the 3 Week Look Ahead Schedule are available and on site.
  • Preparation of Daily Reports, weekly schedule and commodity installation status.
  • Develops, monitors, and reports on completion of craft/subcontractor punch list activities.
  • Has full knowledge of the safety program and may act as the Safety Representative on site in the absence of the regular Safety Supervisor.
  • Has general knowledge of all disciplines of construction.
  • In coordination with subcontractor(s), develops and distributes a Job Hazard Analysis for assigned segments of work or major erection packages.
  • Resolves safety and quality issues with the safety and quality managers.  Further disputes are then deferred to the Project Superintendent or Project Manager.
  • Can stand in for the Project Superintendent in his absence.
  • Understands the major commercial and deliverable terms of the construction subcontracts and manages within these terms.
  • Monitors and controls use of overtime by project field staff and subcontractors.
  • Provides coordination and logistical assistance to Building Inspectors, Special Inspectors, Construction Material Testing Agencies, Manufacturer’s Technical Representatives, and Commissioning Agents.
  • Provides supervision, training, development, and performance management to direct reports.
  • Supports continuous improvement efforts and the change management effects associated with the implementation of improvements.
  • Adheres to Black & Veatch’s Safety, Quality, Ethical Standards, Lessons Learned, and Performance Management programs in accordance with Division Policies, Standards, Guides, and Contractual commitments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelors' degree in Construction Management or Engineering; additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • A minimum of 3+ years of experience at the Superintendent level with a Bachelor’s degree OR 5+ years of Superintendent experience without degree.
  • OSHA 30 Training
  • Data Center or Commercial project experience.

Minimum Qualifications

8+ years experience as a Superintendent or Construction Manager on equivalent projects. Valid Driver's License. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.


OSHA 10 certification.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

Physical Demands:

  • Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds. 
  • Stand, Kneel, Bend, Stoop, Move, and Walk long distances in and around confined, cluttered places, and uneven areas.
  • See and hear naturally or with correction.   
  • Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with requirements of the job duties. 
  • Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls according to a set procedure. 
  • Requires repetitive movement. 
  • May require work above 5 feet in height.
  • Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds. 
  • Work up to a 12 hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions. 

Work Environment:

  • Typical construction site environment:  
    • Requires working in cramped work spaces and getting into awkward positions. 
    • Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32F degrees) temperatures and exposure to inclement weather such as dust, wind, snow, rain, etc. 
    • Requires working in extremely bright or low lighting conditions 
    • Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. 
    • Work around hazardous equipment.
  • Typical office environment.
  • This position is considered a safety sensitive position.
