The Opportunity
We are seeking a Solution Lead for our Grid and Data Centre solutions to join as part of our senior team. The role oversees a team of Project Managers and engineers to ensure successful project delivery and develops the Grid and Data Centre business in the region.
The Solution Lead will oversee medium to large projects across our key markets in the UK, Spain, Germany and the Middle East in the short-to-medium term, with further strategic expansion throughout the EMEA region.
Leading our clients into tomorrow, this role will also be key in winning new work as we continue to grow our power generation business in the region. Black & Veatch brings the tools, technologies, and teams to deliver for our clients on energy and infrastructure projects. We are a global leader in Energy, Grid and Data Centres.
The role will preferably be based in the UK at our Glasgow or London offices, with regular travel to our international offices as well as client and project sites throughout the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Ownership of new business and earned financial budgets for the regional Grid and Data Centre business.
- Work with business development to win new work from new and existing clients.
- Manages engineering design, owners engineer projects involving multiple clients or partners or medium EPC projects.
- Manages multiple clients and/or projects where the project team, client structure and/or project location present greater challenges.
- Manages multiple risks which includes fixed price or new technology or non-domestic markets or new clients.
Management Responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Depth and breadth of experience in Grid, Substation and/ or Data Centre projects
- Project Director/Management experience with an Engineering and Construction industry background (10 years +).
- Mid scale EPC/EPCM project experience, predominantly on the contractor side vs client.
- Proven leadership experience, including management of client relationships at senior levels.
- Track record in actively supporting business development activity.
- Comprehensive UK market experience with a strong network and knowledge of key clients, competitors and current industry trends.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Project management experience and qualification.

Project Management Qualification highly desirable.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
Typical office environment: Sitting, standing, computer usage for extended periods of time.
Ability to utilise audio/video conferencing software for internal/external communication purposes.
Typical construction environment: extreme weather conditions, high noise level, safety hazards (electric currents, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to chemicals), atmospheric conditions (fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation).
Sitting, walking, talking, hearing, reading, driving, standing for extended periods of time, lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds.
