The Opportunity

The EPC Project Manager for Electric Grid will function in a project and commercial leadership capacity. You will own the bottom-line for a portfolio of EPC and services projects primarily encompassing transmission, distribution, and substations. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

 

  • Execute projects that have substantial impact within Black & Veatch 
  • Mentor and supervise professionals in a high-growth area of our organization.

Please note: This role has 25% to 50% travel to project and client sites. When not travelling, this role will be hybrid: 2 days per week remote, 3 days per week in-office. This position is specific for the Houston Office.

The Team

Our Grid solutions serve our clients to provide study level to full-scale EPC execution for electric power solutions such as Transmission, Distribution, Substations, and Private Networks solutions. As a Senior Project Manager you are the execution hub for our clients and project teams, providing leadership and alignment for successful electric grid projects. Our Energy & Process business is driven to meet clients’ rapidly changing sustainability needs in generation, transmission, and distribution of safe, reliable electric power. Key Responsibilities

  • Actively promotes Black & Veatch's safety culture.
  • Serves as the key resource for executive management advisory on overall project health.
  • Oversees planning, developing, issuing, and progress tracking of all assigned projects from contract execution through commercial operation.
  • Works with Engineering, Procurement, and Construction to identify and resolve problems or issues related to design information, schedule, material deliveries, change management, safety, and quality.
  • Manages escalated problems or issues.
  • Owns commercial recovery process and close-out.
  • Manages the application of quality and control procedures.
  • Directs complex projects requiring global resources and multiple partners
  • Manages multiple clients and/or accountable for implementing expanded new business objectives
  • Oversees and delivers opportunities for new/repeat business, finalizing key contract negotiations with client executives
  • Manages broad and varied complex risk profile
     

Management Responsibilities

Acts as a project manager. Among responsibilities is management of a project team. The individual comprising this team may vary by project.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 12+ years of relevant industry experience including at least one of the following:
    • 3+ years as a Project Manager of EPC projects focused on at least one of the following technologies (Transmission, Distribution, or Substations including overhead, underground, or HV).
    • 3+ years in a project leadership role (not including PMO or strictly operations) at an organization that focuses on utility-scale T&D/Substation construction and/or design
  • Experience managing engineering, procurement, and construction for EPC projects.
  • Experience negotiating contracts with clients in the energy utility space
  • Experience managing construction teams directly in both a direct-hire and/or subcontract construction environment
  • Experience managing risk for EPC T&D/Substation projects
  • Deep knowledge of the utility-scale T&D/Substation market
     

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

Typical office environment, typical construction environment, extreme weather conditions, high noise level, safety hazards (electric currents, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to chemicals), atmospheric conditions (fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation).  Sitting, walking, talking, hearing, reading, writing, keyboarding, driving, filing, reaching, stooping, crouching, bending, standing for extended periods of time, lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds.
