The Opportunity

The solution quality lead will strengthen and sustain execution excellence across the Advanced Power Generation (APG) portfolio by embedding quality discipline, predictability, and right-the-first-time execution across the full project lifecycle, with responsibility for influencing consistent quality outcomes across APG projects. This role champions that best-in-class quality is a primary safety control and a foundational requirement for achieving and sustaining zero injuries—ensuring quality-driven safety is embedded in how work is planned, executed, and verified.

Reporting to the APG Solution Portfolio Lead, this role supports execution of approved portfolio strategies by driving solution-level quality leadership spanning engineering, supply chain, construction, commissioning, and turnover. The APG Solution Quality Lead works in close partnership with the Quality Management team to ensure consistent application of quality standards, leading indicators, and continuous improvement practices without duplicating project or field quality execution roles. Execution experience is critical, as this role anticipates quality-driven risks that impact safety, cost, schedule, and client confidence, and proactively drives mitigation and continuous improvement across APG projects.

Key Responsibilities

Clients

  • Reinforce quality and execution excellence as differentiators for APG clients, emphasizing that first-time quality is a primary safety control.
  • Support client-facing discussions related to quality strategy, execution risk, and lessons learned, including the linkage between quality discipline and safe execution.
  • Partner with APG leadership and project teams to translate client quality expectations into practical execution strategies and repeatable quality practices across APG projects.

Organizational Effectiveness

  • Execute and evolve APG solution-level quality strategy aligned with portfolio objectives, predictable execution, and zero-incident safety culture.
  • Promote Quality Assurance as the foundation for exceptional performance
  • Strengthen a culture of quality, accountability, and psychological safety across APG projects, empowering professionals to raise concerns early and stop work when quality or safety is at risk.
  • Drive adoption of quality driven planning and leading quality indicators into project execution planning and applicablework packages.
  • Own APG solution-level visibility into cost of quality, rework, recurring quality trends, and corrective action effectiveness, highlighting the direct relationship between poor quality, disrupted work, and increased safety exposure.
  • Serve as the primary APG interface to the Operations Quality Management organization.
  • Promote continuous improvement through capability development, root cause analysis, lessons learned, and cross-project sharing of effective practices.

Execution

  • Support execution planning by embedding first-time quality expectations that reduce rework, congestion, schedule compression, and out-of-sequence work that elevate safety risk.
  • Partner with Project Managers, Engineering, Supply Chain, Construction, and Operations Quality through project closeout to ensure predictable, safe execution.
  • Improve procedural adherence and execution discipline to eliminate or reduce rework and repeat quality issues.
  • Partner with Operations and EHS on Quality related incident investigations.
  • Enable proactive project assessments and self-checks that evaluate quality readiness as a leading indicator of safety and execution performance.
  • Champion quality-based stop-work responsibility as a critical safety control when standards, procedures, or conditions introduce unacceptable risk.
  • Drive closure and effectiveness validation of corrective actions to ensure sustained improvements in both quality and safety performance.
  • Identify emerging quality trends across APG projects and elevate systemic risks, barriers, and improvement opportunities to APG leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Significant experience in EPC project execution within power generation or heavy industrial environments.
  • Strong understanding of how quality discipline, planning rigor, and predictable execution directly influence safety outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence across matrixed organizations without direct authority.
  • ASQ certification such as CCQ/OE, CQE, CQA, or equivalent quality leadership credential preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10-12+ years progressive experience in project execution, operations, construction, commissioning, or quality leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated execution experience across engineering, construction, and commissioning disciplines.
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Typical office environment with periodic travel to project sites, supplier locations, or client locations as needed.
  • Based on location in one of Black & Veatch’s main hubs.
