Duties

Electrical Engineer 4, Irvine, CA. Duties: Perform detailed protection and control design analysis for greenfield substation retrofit projects that includes one-line, AC & DC schematics, panel elevation and indoor/outdoor equipment wiring drawings for voltages ranging from 16kV to 345kV along with creating associated bills of material, SCADA points list, circuit lists, conduit lists, and substation equipment nameplates.  Work as lead engineer and assisted the project manager in managing projects and client relationships as well as marketing engineering services to the client.  Plan, develop, schedule, and direct engineering efforts to efficiently deliver high quality and safe design packages.  Perform cable sizing and conduit fill calculation studies based on NEC guidelines.  Prepare cost estimate, engineering schedule, design specification and scope summary documents as part of project initiation phase.  Manage and assist design engineers to document quality assurance and quality check forms for their design, calculations, and reports. Review lower-level engineering work or assignments. Review design of substation one-line, schematics, wiring diagrams, switchboard, and substation nameplates for various complex high voltage projects as a part of Quality assurance/ Quality Control responsibilities in the team.  Review of calculations reports such as conductor sizing, voltage drop, AC & DC station service sizing, conduit, and trench fill calculations, etc. for various complex projects as a part of QA/QC responsibilities in the team.  Review design specifications of the materials such as manufacturer prints for circuit breakers, power and station service transformers, capacitive voltage transformers, disconnect switches, wave-trap, line tuners, relay and control panels, and stand-alone current transformers. Assist design engineers by reviewing their design before finalizing the drawings to issue them for construction. Perform duties as a supervisor for direct reports including Electrical Engineers and Engineering Technicians by conducting monthly review meetings and providing frequent feedback on technical tasks.  No hire/fire authority.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires: Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field plus 4 years’ related experience, or in the alternative a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field plus five years of related experience. Must have Professional Engineering license (P.E.).  Related experience must include: working with software including AutoCAD and Bluebeam.  Must have experience with protection and control electrical engineering work for substations, including substation physical layout design, grounding and conduit design, electrical system operation, SCADA Automation, and associated system design. Must have experience performing power system studies including Load Flow, Short Circuit, Arc Flash and Protection & Coordination. Must have experience with applicable codes and standard for substation projects, including NESC, NEC, and IEEE. Must be able to provide manhour estimates and schedules for proposals. Must be capable of performing quality assurance checks for substation protection and control electrical drawings. Must have good written and verbal communications skills in English.
