Job Summary

This position will function as a lead Civil Engineer role within the Commercial & Connectivity Business at Black & Veatch and will focus on the civil site development design for Data Centre projects in accordance with best practice and recognized design standards/codes of practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act of Point of contact with the UK team for interaction with other international B&V teams.
  • Interface management with UK civil and geotechnical leads to develop compatible engineering solutions for projects.
  • Input to the delivery of data centres project developments in accordance with the pre-defined budgets, deadlines and quality requirements.
  • Regularly and accurately reporting the status of projects to management. .
  • Be a key interface and manage the relationship with clients and contractors.
  • Add value, avoid/resolve issues, mitigate risks and manage project’s finances and contracts by .applying robust project management practices and experience from previous projects. 
  • Participation at site visits and client meetings.
  • Disseminate knowledge and experiences to other team members and supporting the development of the team and team members. 
  • Outline design, FEED, procurement and installation project stages relating to Data Centre civil infrastructure including cable route, substation/facility layout, access roads, building layout design, drainage plans. Construction feasibility of civil infrastructure including pre-construction layout (e.g. stockpile, laydown area and site compound areas, temporary working corridors) and RAMS.

  • Experience in the use of specialist software (e.g. Ansys Mechanical, SolidWorks, OPILE) is desirable.

Management Responsibilities

Acts in capacity of a "lead person." Does not have management responsibility for the people to whom they provide work direction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • Working toward/ near completion of a professional recognition qualification such as Chartered Engineer.
  • Experience in the design of terrestrial civil works.
  • A demonstrable track record  designing of onshore civil works including the following experience:
  • Application of recognised IEC/ISO/Eurocodes standards/codes of practice for the design of terrestrial and nearshore civil works.
  • Experience in Management of CAD resource for the preparation of engineering drawings. Preparation of technical specifications.
  • Design experience in accordance with Health & Safety legislation and regulations (e.g. CDM Regs).
  • Professional recognition qualification such as Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) or a similar institute/institution.

 

Experience in the undertaking of assignments in some or all the following areas is desirable:  

  • Detail design project stage of Data Centre developments.
  • Drainage plan development
  • Preparation of Tender documentation to support procurement activities including Invitation of Tender, Employer’s Requirements, Bills of Qualities.
  • Input to project site due diligence and owners engineer assignments. 
  • Experience of civil / site development works for Data Centre Structures.
  • Knowledge of procurement contracts such as the New Engineering Contract (NEC).

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 8 years related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Certifications

Professional recognition qualification such as Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) or a similar institute/institution.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

Typical office environment: Sitting/standing, computer usage for extended periods of time. Speaking, Listening. Ability to utilize audio/video conferencing software for internal/external communication purposes.

May require travel to client/project sites. May require ability to rent/drive a vehicle requiring UK Driver's licence.
