Job Summary

Bird Electric, a Black & Veatch company, is a U.S. self-perform electrical construction services provider with a national reach in emergency power restoration. Bird Electric delivers grid solutions and operates in adjacent distributed infrastructure markets including renewables, electric vehicle (EV) charging, and connectivity. 

 

The Business Development Director will serve as a business advisor who provides leadership, initiates, develops, and manages business within the transmission and distribution division. This position is accountable for meeting sales targets, allocates resources, and makes decisions in support of the overall business growth strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supports and provides guidance to Business Development functions by providing client and market information which supports the intended goal of gaining market share and significant business growth within the Transmission and Distribution division.
  • Maintain Market Awareness
  • Identify and prioritize potential new customers.
  • Initiate contact with target utilities for purpose of business growth.
  • Seek to leverage all applicable existing business relationships within entire Black & Veatch organization.
  • Direct, manage, and create material for client presentations.
  • Develop appropriate marketing collateral to support customer presentations.
  • Schedule client presentations and coordinate the appropriate personnel needed to participate.
  • Coordinate and direct the presentation team to ensure all members are properly equipped to participate in presentations.
  • Manages the entire presentation process including scheduling additional presentations leading to business growth.
  • Maintain consistent communication with Pre-construction, Operations, and Executive Leadership to ensure focus and ensure the appropriate functional areas are consistently informed on actions and outcomes of the business development process.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in business or technical discipline. 10 + years direct (supplier to client) business development sales experience with Transmission & Distribution focus. Strong understanding of industry including Energy, Power, and Utility business, including drivers and motivators. Ability to sell; strong presentations, negotiating and persuasive skills.

  • Understanding of financial metrics including PGM, revenue, overhead costs, profit/loss, and project financials.
  • Excellent communications/human relations skills (written, verbal, client service).
  • Contract negotiating skills which includes knowledge of terms, risks, pricing, and payment terms.
  • Ability to interface with diverse personalities.
  • Ability to think strategically.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Ability to lead and guide professionals.
