Job Summary

Black & Veatch has an exciting opportunity for a Wastewater Infrastructure Planning Business Leader based in Toronto.

Our North American Planning & Asset Management business has seen consistent growth driven by our clients’ needs to address challenges stemming from population growth, aging infrastructure, basement flooding, system reliability and resilience concerns, the need to improve operational efficiency, and the use of “big data” to help guide decision making.  This position represents a strategic business opportunity for Black & Veatch’s Distribution & Collection System Planning team to help the company grow its market share by providing world-class wastewater infrastructure planning services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for our wastewater collection planning business in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond, including supporting projects and opportunities in the USA.
  • Provide technical solutions and differentiation for the Collection System Planning team focused on wastewater infrastructure planning
  • Evaluation of wastewater system capacity, condition, resilience and operating efficiency
  • Analysis and projections of wastewater flows
  • Use of risk-based assessments to develop and prioritize capital improvement programs
  • Integration of condition assessment and asset management data into system master planning and to directly support replacement & renewal planning
  • Use of cutting-edge hydraulic modeling, GIS, asset management, and data visualization software to help solve client issues
  • Provide project execution and technical leadership support for our planning and asset management projects
  • Provide technical leadership to support marketing and business development in the GTA and beyond
  • Work closely with Client Directors to leverage existing and build new relationships with clients and decision makers in the GTA and beyond
  • Lead and/or support pursuit, proposal, and project interview activities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with technical and thought leadership surrounding wastewater infrastructure systems
  • Must have GTA experience in client-facing roles and with GTA Wastewater systems
  • 10+ years of infrastructure assessment experience including hydraulic modeling, master planning, condition assessment, asset management, and data analysis
  • Experience managing planning project, leading technical tasks and project teams, and executing wastewater collection system studies and assessments that involve system operations modeling, optimization techniques, risk & resiliency evaluations, capital and life-cycle cost analyses, CIP prioritization
  • Proficient with data analyses, analytics, and visualization
  • Proficient with report writing and PowerPoint presentations
  • Experience in developing proposals and leading technical discussions during client interviews/projects
  • Experience and/or familiarity with Geographic Information System (GIS) technology and software (i.e. ArcGIS)
  • Capable in MSWord, MSExcel, PowerPoint
  • Familiarity of dynamic data visualization software such as PowerBI
  • Experience and/or familiarity with hydraulic modeling software such as:
    • InfoWorks ICM
    • SewerGems
    • EPASWMM
    • PCSWMM

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 8 years related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Certifications

Most positions - depending on the nature of work performed as defined by the division - will typically require incumbents to have professional registration or licensure in their designated home office country, or be in active pursuit* of such registration
