Job Summary

This position will function as an engineering manager in a lead role within the Global Renewable Energy Business at Black & Veatch. With minimal supervision, applies technical management techniques to manage and lead prospects, proposals and projects for clients, managing a technical engineering-focused team. Black & Veatch projects to be managed may span all stages of client project development and delivery ranging from feasibility studies through to different design stages as well as construction and can include small scale R&D projects as well as large scale mature technology projects. Expands knowledge and skill set in area of discipline. May start to expand knowledge in other disciplines and/or functional areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be the main interface and manage the relationship with clients and contractors.
  • Participation at client meetings.
  • Disseminate knowledge and experiences to other team members and supporting the development of the team and team members.
  • Act of Point of contact within the UK team for interaction with other international B&V teams.
  • Interface management with UK and global electrical, civil/ structural and geotechnical teams to deliver on client scope of works on time and to budget.
  • Input to the delivery of renewable energy project developments in accordance with the pre-defined budgets, deadlines and quality requirements.
  • Regularly and accurately reporting the status of projects to senior management.
  • Be a key interface and manage the relationship with clients and contractors.
  • Proposal development.

Management Responsibilities

Acts in capacity of a "lead person." Does not have management responsibility for the people to whom they provide work direction.

Preferred Qualifications

Highly Desirable:

  • Degree in, Engineering, Sciences, Environmental, or equivalent qualification.
  • 5+ years work experience in offshore and subsea structures.
  • A demonstrable track record of office-based supervision of offshore projects and coordination of engineering activities, including early project development experience.  
  • A demonstrable track record of being key interface between client and delivery team.
  • Management of multi-disciplinary technical interfaces on offshore projects and package management.
  • Experience of regularly and accurately reporting the status of projects to senior management.  
  • Experience of inputting to the delivery of project developments in accordance with the pre-defined budgets, deadlines and quality requirements.
  • Proposal management and development.
  • Tendering and bid evaluation.
  • Track record in consultancy, development or engineering projects offshore in UK or Europe.
  • Offshore renewable energy experience.
  • An understanding of CDM regulations and specifically the role of Principal Designer.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 11 years related work experience.

  • Professional recognition qualification such as Chartered Engineer.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

Typical office/home environment: Sitting/Standing/Keyboarding. Computer usage for extended periods of time. Speaking/Listening. Ability to utilize video/audio conferencing software for communication purposes.

Typical construction environment: extreme weather conditions, high noise level, safety hazards (electric currents, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to chemicals), atmospheric conditions (fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation).  Sitting, walking, talking, hearing, reading, writing, keyboarding, driving, filing, reaching, stooping, crouching, bending, standing for extended periods of time, lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds.
