The Opportunity

The Black & Veatch Data Centers business has a need for a full-time Project/Design Manager with experience leading and executing large data center projects. As the Project/Design Manager, you will have the opportunity to:

 

  • Lead large design teams and also serve as a technical specialist on Data Center projects
  • Develop and apply advanced techniques, concepts and approaches to complex architectural and engineering problems under general direction
  • Provide technical guidance over a group or supervise architectural and discipline leader on projects of medium to high complexity
  • Be responsible for developing, validating, and presenting specialist/technical output 

Key Responsibilities

Project Execution:   

  • Prepare complex architectural and engineering deliverables for multiple or large scale data center projects including but not limited to schematic design, detailed design, permitting submission, and construction issue documents. 
  • Conduct complex research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection 
  • Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, and quality requirements  
  • Lead larger execution teams, coordinate multiple discipline activities, and serve as the responsible charge for project execution 

Client Interface:  

  • Identify key client interests and drivers for moderately complex projects 
  • Communicate client concerns to project team members and develop solutions 
  • Provide support for business development or pursuit activities 
  • Manage project changes directly with the client under Project Manager supervision 

Technical expertise: 

  • Lead large multi-discipline teams to meet project deliverables 
  • Provide technical leadership for complex data center and commercial projects 
  • Drive solutions to achieve project goals 
  • Provides guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable codes and Black & Veatch policies 

Management Responsibilities: 

  • Reviews architect and engineering work or assignments 
  • Responsible for mentoring and performance management of assigned personnel

Acts as a project manager. Among responsibilities is management of a project team. The individual comprising this team may vary by project.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in architecture from an NAAB or a recognized accredited program a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing.

  • Intermediate knowledge of technical aspects of the proposal process
  • Intermediate knowledge of company/division/HR programs, policies, procedures, and organization structure
  • Intermediate knowledge of management techniques and administrative practices 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

Certifications

  • Typical office environment with hybrid work schedule: 3 days in office and 2 days remote
