Job Summary

Our Gas, Fuels & Chemicals Business provides services from consulting, design, full engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) and commissioning/start-up of LNG facilities, Floating LNG facilities, gas processing and NGL fractionation, gasification/ gas to liquids, hydrogen and ammonia/fertilizers. Our knowledge, capabilities, and innovation include our proprietary PRICO® technologies. This enables our team to assess and choose tailored solutions with greater quality and efficiency for our clients. The value chain spans natural gas and natural gas liquids, midstream, wholesale markets, power generation and utility segments.

The Assistant Commercial Manager position is assigned to either a Project Contract, Line of Business, Cost/Planning Services, Regional Office Project Contract Lead or a combination. This position is an entry-level management position. It may have supervisory/lead responsibility over Project Contracts personnel or functions. Acts as a commercial specialist who develops advanced concepts. 

In addition to performing duties as assigned, this position is primarily focused on seeking responsibility in the areas of providing support to Commercial Group management in terms of all commercial aspects including business deliverables, decision making and impact, accountability, and financial measures (budgets, turnover etc.); supports the setting of deliverables schedule, and supports obtaining the necessary resources from other departments.  Manages and supports in developing commercial strategies for tenders and project contracts in its future business.  Provides assistance in developing and providing input into the strategic/operations plans, contract templates and training.

This is an assistant manager with or without direct subordinates. Supervises work of others not reporting to this position.

Key Responsibilities

Able to influence Black & Veatch clients and able to lead work scope to manage/oversee a Project Contract program. Assists in training and development of other professionals.

Commercial Management:

  • Leads project contract teams on projects of limited size or scope.
  • Assists LOB PCMs and/or services managers in major activities as needed.
  • Identifies opportunities for improving Project Contract processes and systems.

Business Management:

  • Provides business services for major projects and capture of major projects. 
  • Interfaces with project teams and Directors to ensure Project Contract supports execution.
  • Coordinates resource requirements with services managers and department head.
  • Provides leadership in identifying and addressing major department issues.

Regional Office/Group Management:

  • Manages division Project Contract process and systems development.
  • Collaborates with the regional office management team to achieve maximum value contribution.
  • Provides leadership to development of regional plans for Project Contract support on projects in support of regional execution office and project field sites within region for multiple Line of Businesses (LOB).
  • Reviews work of others.

Management Responsibilities

Acts in capacity of a "lead person." Does not have management responsibility for the people to whom they provide work direction.

Preferred Qualifications

A Law degree will be advantageous.

  • Understanding of Legal, Insurance, Finance, Tax and Treasury (LIFTT) issues.
  • Drafting, reviewing, negotiating and finalizing Technical Service Agreements, Confidentiality Agreements, MOUs, Teaming Agreements. 
  • Able to assess and apply LIFTT issues to facts to resolve project commercial issues.
  • Leadership skills to include the ability to manage, lead, guide/coach, develop, motivate, and mentor team professionals.
  • Proven communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Self starter and ability to make decisions independently.
  • Computer skills.
  • Planning skills.
  • Proven knowledge of Project Contract management.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in any discipline. At least five to seven years of relevant Commercial management in Home Office or Field Office. Managed a minimum of at least three (3) commercial projects.
