The Opportunity
We are seeking a Technology Business Architect with a strong emphasis on vetting technology to join our IT Strategic Alignment organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for aligning business goals and processes with technology strategy and ensuring that technology solutions are properly aligned with business goals. This role will require in-depth analysis of technology options and making recommendations that will help achieve business goals.
The Team
Black & Veatch’s Business Enablement consists of critical groups that help enable the organizations people, projects, and businesses to be as successful as possible. Functions in this group include Digital & Information Technology, Global Finance, Global Human Resources, Legal, Risk Management, and Government Affairs and Real Estate and Building Services.
Key Responsibilities
- Advocate for secure, resilient, and scalable digital capabilities while ensuring a positive customer experience
- Work with stakeholders to identify business needs and requirements
- Define and design business architecture frameworks, models, and processes
- Conduct in-depth analysis of technology options and make recommendations that align with business goals
- Develop and maintain a technology roadmap that aligns with business goals and objectives
- Work with IT teams to implement technology solutions that align with business goals and processes
- Identify areas of improvement in business processes and develop recommendations for change
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies and trends to identify new opportunities for business areas
- Assist in developing business cases for proposed changes and present to stakeholders
- Work with project teams to ensure that projects align with business goals and processes
- Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders to ensure that business needs are being met
Management Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor degree in computer science, information-technology, engineering, system analysis, mathematics or a related study, or equivalent experience
Experience
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in at least two IT solution development disciplines, including technical or infrastructure architecture, network management, application development, middleware, database management or cloud development
- Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies, platforms and processing environments
- Good understanding of strategic and new and emerging technology trends, and the practical application of existing, new and emerging technologies to new and evolving business and operating models
- Good understanding of product management, agile principles and development methodologies and capability of supporting agile teams by providing advice and guidance on opportunities, impact and risks, taking account of technical and architectural debt

Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, or related field
- 7+ years of experience in business architecture, IT strategy, or related field

- In-depth experience with vetting technology options and making recommendations
- Knowledge of enterprise architecture and IT governance best practices

- Prior experience in enterprise architecture or technology vetting
- Experience in presenting business cases to executive leadership
- Ability to identify and mitigate potential risks associated with technology solutions
- Familiarity with emerging technologies and their potential impact on business operations
- Strong understanding of IT security and compliance best practices
- Experience with IT project management methodologies such as Agile or Waterfall
- Strong leadership skills and ability to lead teams to achieve business goals and objectives
- Ability to adapt to changing business needs and priorities
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think strategically
- Strategic thinking and ability to align business goals with technology strategy
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
