The Opportunity
We are seeking a detail-oriented Corporate Paralegal to join our team on a part-time basis (4 days per week) in our Kansas City office. This role will support the legal and compliance functions, primarily focusing on company secretarial responsibilities for our group subsidiaries and the management of engineering and construction licensing across multiple jurisdictions.
The Team
Black & Veatch’s Business Enablement consists of critical groups that help enable the organizations people, projects, and businesses to be as successful as possible. Functions in this group include Digital & Information Technology, Global Finance, Global Human Resources, Legal, Risk Management, and Government Affairs and Real Estate and Building Services.
Key Responsibilities
Corporate Governance / Company Secretarial Duties
- Maintain corporate records and entity databases for U.S. and international subsidiaries.
 - Prepare and file annual reports, board resolutions, meeting minutes, and other corporate documentation.
 - Coordinate formation, dissolution, and restructuring of legal entities as needed.
 - Monitor corporate compliance deadlines and ensure timely filings with relevant authorities.
 - Assist in preparation and maintenance of corporate governance policies and internal procedures.
 - Maintain and update the organizational charts using appropriate tools and platforms.
 
Licensing Management
- Manage and maintain active engineering, contractor, and business licenses across states.
 - Track renewal dates and coordinate timely submissions to avoid lapses.
 - Liaise with regulatory agencies, licensing boards, and internal departments to ensure compliance.
 - Assist with applications for new licenses as business expands into new jurisdictions.
 
Additional Support
- Coordinate with internal legal counsel and external legal advisors as necessary.
 - Support legal team in other administrative or compliance-related tasks, including document management and audits.
 - Coordinate with key internal stakeholders across departments—including Tax, Treasury, and Sales—as needed to ensure alignment and support.
 
Preferred Qualifications
- Paralegal certificate or equivalent legal training required.
 - Minimum 5 years of experience in a corporate legal department or law firm, with a focus on corporate governance and corporate licensing.
 - Familiarity with the engineering and construction industry is strongly preferred.
 - Strong understanding of corporate entity structures and multi-jurisdictional compliance.
 - Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
 - Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and legal entity management software (e.g., hCue, CSC, or similar).
 
Minimum Qualifications
- 2-5 years corporate law or paralegal experience required
 - All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
