The Team

The Business Relationship Team at Black & Veatch in the Digital and Information Technology (D&IT) department.  This Business Relationship Leader (BRL) will support the Enterprise Evolution.  Enterprise Evolution is comprised of enterprise sales, marketing and communications, global sustainability, enterprise strategy and mergers and acquisitions and partnerships.  This role will build and maintain positive relationships with Enterprise Evolution.  The BRL  will focus on delivering business value, owning business critical relationships, and serving as a single point of focus for the interaction between Digital & Information Technology (D&IT) and business partners.  

 

Black & Veatch’s Strategic Advisory & Lifecycle Resiliency Services are an integrated portfolio of strategic consulting and operation resiliency services that apply across the client’s entire investment-to-operations lifecycle commitments. Included are Strategic Advisory, Industrial Cybersecurity, and Operating Assets.

The Opportunity

The business relationship Leader (BRL) is a senior-level, strategic business partner responsible for building and maintaining positive relationships with our clients and stakeholders, ensuring that their needs are met, and their expectations are exceeded. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a deep understanding of the IT industry, and a proven track record of developing and implementing successful business strategies. The BRL will focus on delivering business value, owning business critical relationships, and serving as a single point of focus for the interaction between Digital & Information Technology (D&IT) and business partners. The BRL is integral to ensuring decisions regarding D&IT products and services align with strategic business goals and objectives while fostering positive customer experience.   

 

The BRL will contribute to the business leadership team by actively partnering with business peers to determine strategic direction. The BRL will work to identify ways to support and advance business objectives including persistent or significant D&IT operational issues that require resolution. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Advocate for secure, resilient, and scalable digital capabilities while ensuring a positive customer experience. 
  • Support the Sales and Marketing teams with a focus on building and maintaining positive relationships with clients and stakeholders 
  • Identify opportunities for growth and development of client relationships 
  • Ensure that client needs are being met and their expectations are exceeded Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement business strategies, strategic roadmaps, business cases, and value plans 
  • Lead as the strategic interface between D&IT and business partner to stimulate, surface, and shape business demand and ensure that the potential business value from those assets and capabilities is captured, realized, optimized, and recognized. 
  • Manage requests through the D&IT demand process  
  • Coach business leaders and enable them to articulate their function’s (i.e. capability, technology, people, etc.) needs and requirements that will advance business performance, leverage digital capabilities, and foster positive BV professionals and BV customer experiences. 
  • Partner with Application Portfolio Managers and Project Managers for execution and delivery.  
  • Partner with Business Analysts and the Architecture team to develop and maintain multi-year business capability roadmaps that support the digital product operating model. 
  • Partner with business teams (change management) to ensure effective transformation for all initiatives.

  • Experience and comfort working at executive levels of similarly sized organizations 
  • Domain specific IT knowledge of applications and tools for marketing and sales 
  • Demonstrate acumen in business and sales and marketing 
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, leadership skills 
  • Proven ability to translate business requirements into technology solutions 
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams 
  • Experience in the IT industry, preferably in an organization that supports the business 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment 
  • Experience mapping joint organizational vision and long-term thinking, imagination, and idea generation 
  • Business Relationship Management Professional (BRMP®) is a plus 
  • Certified Business Relationship Manager (CBRM®) is a plus 
  • 10+ years of experience facilitating the development and implementation of business initiatives and projects, based on management objectives. 
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills 
  • Strong project management skills 
  • Ability to set expectations with business partners and effectively leverage governance for a positive business partner experience
  • Master's in Business Administration

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (in any discipline) or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role as a strategic partner, as well as with leadership and functional teams.
  • 5+ years of experience facilitating the development and implementation of business initiatives and projects, based on management objectives.

Certifications

  • Certified Business Relationship Manager (CBRM) preferred  
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred
