The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Digital Product Management Leader to own end-to-end strategy, roadmap and outcomes for multiple digital products as part of the Digital & IT team at Black & Veatch. This role will define, design, implement and scale enterprise-grade AI powered software products, enabling critical business functions for the company. As a Product Leader, this person will help establish a team of product managers and product owners, who will work in close collaboration with internal business partners, as well as User Experience, Engineering and other peers in the Digital & IT function. This role ensures that our product teams establish a strong understanding of business needs, user persona, key performance indicators and important GTM milestones, in order to deliver measurable value quickly, with agility, predictability, and resilience, consistent with the Digital Product Operating Model (DPOM).
As a key member of the Digital Products leadership team, this leader will help accelerate product delivery by translating business requirements to a well-defined product backlog, ensure proper prioritization, planning and execution with the engineering team, readiness of the product for user acceptable testing and customer releases, and manage a strong feedback cycle for ongoing product improvements through an effective roadmap. This role will have direct visibility to senior executives at Black & Veatch, and their performance will have great impact on the future profitable business growth of the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy alignment and Portfolio planning
• Collaborate with the business to identify important problem statements and competitive opportunities.
• Translate enterprise strategy and OKRs into clear product objectives and outcomes.
• Run Working Backwards / PR‑FAQ and business case validation for new opportunities.
• Shape multi‑year product strategy; define portfolio lenses and prioritization criteria.
• Secure and steward funding; align investments with product value hypotheses. - Product Strategy, Vision & Roadmap
• Define product vision, target buyer-user personas, differentiated value proposition, impact metrics and user journey maps.
• Establish scope of MVP, iterative maturation path, quarterly objectives and set measurable outcomes for each release/timeframe.
• Build and maintain the product backlog, apply WSJF or equivalent prioritization methods and ensure ongoing alignment with business goals.
• Maintain a portfolio lens and prioritization criteria for efficient resource utilization. - Collaboration with User Experience (UX) and Engineering teams
• Drive adoption of strong UX design principles for research, discovery, design iterations and build-in moments of strong user engagement and delight.
• Partner with Engineering to establish feasibility of product development, technology selections, and short & long-term architecture strategy to achieve MVP and further scale.
• Lead teams through sprint planning, execution, reviews and retrospectives.
• Establish “definition of done”, A/B testing for AI features, monitor model health and build in feedback loops for continuous learning.
• Establish quality criteria covering both user-facing capabilities and non-functional needs including hosting, tenancy, performance, security, observability and resiliency.
• Co-ordinate dependencies across teams, manage risk and represent product team at gate reviews and executive forums. - Communication and Engagement
• Publish product release notes and communicate decisions with clarity including trade-offs.
• Ensure proper documentation is maintained including onboarding materials, embedded user help; leverage modern AI based techniques for user adoption.
• Develop resources to build trust in AI solutions with transparency on deriving decisions.
• Be an evangelist for the product; leverage internal and external forums to communicate and engage internal stakeholders, customers and the industry. - Reliability, Security and Compliance
• Partner with Cloud, Architecture and Information Security teams to embed resiliency, privacy and auditability.
• Ensure adherence to AI governance frameworks, including ethical standards.
• Govern SLO/SLI/SLA targets; ensure diagnostics, telemetry and incident response rituals.
Management Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
- 15+ years in product management and/or platform leadership for multi-tenant SaaS, internal platforms, or large-scale shared services.
- Bachelor’s in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
- Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
- 10-20% travel expected.
- Typical office environment Including sitting, walking, talking, hearing, reading, writing, keyboarding, driving, filing, reaching, stooping, crouching, bending, standing for extended periods of time, lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds.
