The Black & Veatch Special Projects Corp. has its mission to provide a full range of services to our primary client base - U.S. Government agencies and departments. The Opportunity
As a Summer Intern at Black & Veatch in Overland Park, Kansas, you will help address some of the world's most pressing infrastructure challenges. You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects to meet our clients' needs and contribute to the growth and success of Black & Veatch. Under close supervision, you will assist in the development of design deliverables requiring knowledge and experience in engineering principles. You will also be exposed to the technical concepts of low and medium voltage, generation, electrical studies and analysis, lighting design, and grounding and lighting protection. You will contributes to a design team performing facility and mission critical design projects for U.S. Government Agency/Department clients. Required to be a US Citizen and ability to obtain US security clearance.

Key Responsibilities
- Learns and applies departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black & Veatch policies and procedures relative to assigned tasks.
- Prepares less complex engineering deliverables.
- Performs research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.
- Collects, assimilates, and manages data for engineering work.
- Prepares engineering calculations following standard methods and principles.
- Understands and adheres to budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
- Seeks out supervisor or project leadership to share information and gain guidance with respect to details of design and interdisciplinary coordination.
- Coordinates with others as assigned by supervisor or project leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline.
- Relevant coursework or knowledge in Power Systems, Motors, Transformers, Renewable Energy, Power Delivery, or Three Phase Power Calculations.
- Problem-solving skills, effective written communication, and the ability to build relationships.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Minimum Qualifications
No experience required. Current enrollment in ABET accredited university in Electrical Engineering program. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations. Assigned to projects for U.S. Government Agency/Department clients. Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
Work Environment
This intern position is expected to be in the office on a full-time basis.
