The Opportunity

The Engineering Technician Accelerator Program Leader will work with leadership from Engineering and Design Services (EDS), Virtual Design and Data Solutions (VDDS), and co/lab to evolve and drive the Engineering Technician Accelerator Program.   

The ENT Accelerator Program is comprised of two major components.  

 

  • A 15-day Academy designed to develop engineering technician skills in prospective employees who have not been formally trained in modeling, drafting, or design.  
  • Advanced technical training to advance the technology and design capabilities of existing Black & Veatch professionals. 

 

The 15-day Academy program may be offered up to 4 times per year.  However, business needs and market demands will determine the blend of Academy and advanced training programming offered each year. Our Engineering Technician Accelerator Program Instructor will have demonstrated proficiency in creating and interpreting construction documents, Building Information Modeling (BIM), Civil Information Modeling (CIM), parametric design, and graphic analysis.  Our instructor will have exposure to a multitude of software platforms including AutoCAD, Revit, Microstation, OpenPlant, and others.  The instructor will be a strong communicator with the ability to teach professionals with varying degrees of technical experience and a variety of backgrounds. 

This position will be responsible for developing and delivering, collaboratively with other experts, the 15-day Academy and advanced training curriculum for the Engineering Technician Accelerator Program.  Between offerings, the position will be available for on-call support for program graduates. 

Key Responsibilities

Continually develop the 15-day Engineering Technician Accelerator Program curriculum, including the high-level topics below: 

Introduction to Construction Drawings 

  • Measuring, scale, dimensioning, geometric construction 
  • Views: isometric, orthographic, section, plan, detail 
  • Drawing navigation 
  • CAD standards 

Interpretation of Drawings 

  • Cohesion of drawing sets 
  • Civil, mechanical, electrical, structural, architectural 

AutoCAD 

  • CAD terms, concepts, commands, and tools 
  • Software execution 
  • Hands-on activities 

Graphic Analysis 

  • Geospatial calculations 
  • Geometric solutions 

Civil 3D or Revit or Microstation 

  • BIM terms, concepts, commands, and tools 
  • Software execution 
  • Generic hands-on activities 

Solution-Specific Training & Exercises (with support from subject matter experts) 

  • Introduction to BV solution 
  • Solution-specific fundamentals and workflows 
  • Solution-specific training exercises 

Other Responsibilities

  • Deliver 15-day Accelerator Program up to 4 times annually. 
  • Support academy graduates in their project roles between academy cycles.  Serve as first point of contact and subject matter expert for academy graduates executing work. 
  • Assist with tracking of candidate identification and graduate success, regularly partnering with other BV departments and professionals as needed. 
  • Support other VDDS programs and initiatives such as ENT Designer Accelerator programming. 
  • Support other co/lab programs and initiatives such as the Summer Intern Impact Experience. 
  • Responsible for the direct management and evaluation of professions during the training phase.  Will also be highly involved during on-the-job training component of program.  
  • Support the co/lab space by providing technical support approximately 1 day per month.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Drafting Technology or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years of project-based Engineering Technician experience.
  • Experience providing one-on-one support or mentoring.
  • Experience using multiple engineering technician software platforms, which may include AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, Open Plant, and/or others.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/Experience 

  • Associates degree in Drafting Technology or equivalent experience.  
  • 5 years of project-based Engineering Technician experience. 
  • Experience providing one-on-one support or mentoring. 
  • Experience using multiple engineering technician software platforms, which may include AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, Open Plant, and/or others. 

PREFERRED:  

  • Experience presenting, facilitating group training, or similar.
