The Opportunity
The Head of Marketing for Construction and Power Providers is a strategic executive role responsible for leading the commercial, business, and marketing strategy for one of Black & Veatch’s core sectors—Power Providers—as well as the company’s Construction business. Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer and based at the company’s global headquarters in Overland Park, Kansas, this role is an extension of the Power Providers Executive Leadership Team.
This leader will drive integrated marketing programs that align with business objectives, support sector growth targets, and respond to evolving client needs. They will translate strategic priorities into actionable plans that deliver measurable outcomes—such as pipeline growth, client retention, and market share expansion.
The Head of Marketing for Construction and Power Providers will lead the development and execution of marketing strategies that drive growth across both sectors. This role requires close collaboration with sales, business development, engineering, and operations teams to ensure marketing efforts are fully integrated throughout the client journey. A critical part of the role involves building and nurturing relationships with power utilities, industry organizations, and key stakeholders to enhance brand visibility and influence. The Head of Marketing will oversee demand generation, digital marketing, account-based marketing, and opportunity marketing initiatives, tailoring each to the unique lifecycle stage of the solutions being promoted. Additionally, the role will partner with external agencies, media outlets, and industry groups to amplify reach and establish thought leadership. Cross-sector collaboration is also essential, as the Head of Marketing will work with teams in Fuels & Natural Resources, Public Agencies & Utilities, and Infrastructure Advisory and more to ensure cohesive messaging and identify integrated solutions that meet evolving client needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Building and advancing executive business relationships within Power Providers including the President and leadership team, as well as key relationships with segment and solution leaders. In addition, will also develop relationships with other heads of marketing and sector Presidents as solutions across Black & Veatch from a portfolio perspective are cross-sold into power providers as a market segment.
- Market research and understanding of target segments, organization types, buyer and influencer roles and engagement opportunities. Understanding the current and emerging global energy demand trends as well as competitive, regulatory, economic and incentive landscapes across market segments and buyer groups.
- Strategic marketing planning, campaign strategy, demand strategy, digital and performance marketing, discoverability planning, budget management and execution across global stakeholder groups.
- Defining the customer decisions journey with sales and engagement touchpoints across the buyer cycle, and working closely with sales, account relationship and pursuits teams to provide tools that support the sales and lifecycle processes.
- Creating and testing messaging that resonates with audiences across the segments, subsegments and buyer groups targeted with power solutions, and ensuring message consistency across platforms and channels, including digital, print, and in-person communications.
- Paid media strategies, tactics and measurements to monitor and adjust campaigns, promotions and spend as part of performance marketing cycles.
- Outcomes-driven demand and funnel-building campaigns to audiences with low awareness of Black & Veatch and power solutions.
- In-person and virtual events including industry trade and Black-and-Veatch hosted executive events supporting sales, client relationships, research and industry relations.
- Presence and integration of power solutions across the digital landscape including overall discoverability, organic and paid search, with stakeholders including the full client lifecycle.
- Keen understanding of sales and marketing metrics and ability to set and track KPIs throughout marketing performance lifecycles and make agile adjustments for continuous performance improvement.
- Leading a small team of direct reports and a much larger team of influential partners in marketing collaboration and execution.
- Developing relationships with and collaborating with marketing, business and regional teams, unified in meeting the diverse needs of power providers.
- Collaborating with marketing leaders and peers to build and execute marketing programs from start to finish, building consensus with stakeholder groups and strong internal communications networks with sales teams and account executives across the company.
- Power provider portfolio positioning across applicable global markets including collaborating with regional sales and marketing leaders on regional/country-specific marketing plans.

This role supports marketing efforts for a broad range of power solutions, including:
- Power Generation: Gas, solar, hydropower, nuclear, distributed generation
- Power Delivery: Grid infrastructure, private networks
- Construction Services: Elevating the brand across build services and industries
Experience with both core and emerging go-to-market solutions is essential.
Role Characteristics
This is a player-coach role—leading strategic initiatives while actively executing marketing programs. The ideal candidate brings fresh ideas, creative thinking, and a passion for building relationships with the power providers of today and tomorrow.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 15 years strategic marketing experience in B2B including strong digital marketing and demand generation experience
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, marketing communications, business marketing or related field
- Experience in power marketing and knowledge of the ecosystem for power generation and power delivery.
- Experience as a head of marketing in a matrix organization with responsibilities across marketing domains supporting business sales, solution sales and regional account teams required.
- Experience across utility and commercial EPC environments.
- Exceptional marketing communications skills, including writing, presenting, and public speaking, with the ability to deliver bold, well-crafted strategic pitches to senior leadership.
- Advanced personal skills in excel required as well as analytics/data analysis skills.
- Previous successful experience in customer segmentation, analytics and campaigns leveraging Revenue Operations (MarTech and SalesTec) systems such as Sales Force. Successful experience and ability to design and execute complex marketing campaign management across digital channels for client and prospect segments.
- Experience in partner and ecosystem marketing as well as client marketing including collaboration with marketing and sales executives on client value/story promotions and marketing tactics.
- Experience building prospective and current customer engagement across traditional and new mediums including content strategy and architecture by organization type and role, outbound communications to clients and bi-directional client insight/experience loops to improve client satisfaction.
- Requires aptitude and discipline to autonomously research, explore, learn and understand the lifecycles of highly technical solutions and services.
- Experience building industry partner and sponsor relationships, developing creative new ways to reach key audiences with sponsor organizations and planning and executing virtual and in-person executive events.
- Proven record building businesses and providing commercial support to grow new and current customer relationships within a matrix organization
- Strong skills in writing in various mediums, message development, story and presentation development
- Full strategic marketing planning and execution skill set
- Technical aptitude to translate highly technical offerings into value propositions and content for targeted audiences
- Strong project management, budgeting and measurement skills
- Experience marketing professional services as well as technical solutions
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience
- 12+ years progressive management experience in related areas. Industry experience.

Work Environment/Physical Demands
- This role is an executive position and expected to be highly available and responsive to stakeholders, including on weekends. This is not an “administrative” role, but a partner and field-based executive role where we generate learnings in a cycle with our account and pursuits teams and our clients. Planned travel of up to 40% a month is possible for this position. Global travel will be required as you develop new markets with regional teams.
