The Opportunity
As the IT Network Engineer, you will have the opportunity to:
- Be responsible for implementing networking solutions
- Collaborate extensively with the IT Infrastructure Network Architects and with the IT Infrastructure Operations Teams, and with third-party vendors and contractors
- Focus heavily on the implementation of BV’s strategic and architectural design of on-premises and cloud networking solutions
- Help support a robust network environment by implementing modern networking solutions and by supporting office moves, troubleshooting, and design/configuration
- Support implementations of such networking technologies as SDWAN, Routing Architectures, Wireless Networking, Network Automation and Data Center connectivity for a variety of on-premises and cloud platforms
- Be a strong communicator, have strong technical knowledge and skills, be a champion for technology adoption and compliance, and a passionate empathizer for client needs
The Team
Black & Veatch’s Business Enablement consists of critical groups that help enable the organizations people, projects, and businesses to be as successful as possible. Functions in this group include Digital & Information Technology, Global Finance, Global Human Resources, Legal, Risk Management, and Government Affairs and Real Estate and Building Services.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintains contact and builds relationships within the IT Networking team, with IT vendors and 3rd party contractors to ensure availability, security, and satisfaction.
- Assists in identifying new and improved approaches, technologies, tools, templates, and business use cases.
- Supports deployment and configuration of a complex Network Infrastructure environment
- Helps assess on-prem data centers, office locations, and clouds for network capacity, connectivity, performance, and resiliency.
- Creates/Represents/Executes Change Tickets in the Network Infrastructure Area
- Supports Networking Break-Fix situations with multiple team members including managed service provider partners
- Maintains broad-based technical and solutions knowledge in key Networking optimization and solution areas including:
- SDWAN
- SDA
- Network Segmentation
- PAN firewall management
- VPN concentration
- Networking knowledge across a Hybrid Cloud Environment (On-Premise, Azure, AWS, OCI)
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) / Networking Automation
Management Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (in Business, Technology, Computer Science or related field), preferred or equivalent experience.
- Typically 8 years of related experience
- All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field
- 3+ years’ experience (unless otherwise noted) in the following areas:
- Networking – Cloud & On-Premise
- Creation and understanding firewall policy
- ITIL environment of formal Incident, Service Request and Change processes, Systems Development Lifecycle processes and of production of requirements documentation and evidence (ServiceNow experience a plus)
- 2+ years of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC)
- Understanding of routing architecture
- SD networking concepts
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong knowledge of troubleshooting techniques and equipment deployment
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively
Technical Skills
- Hybrid Routing Architectures (On-Prem & Cloud) including Routing Tables and protocols such as (BGP, OSPF, VXLAN, OMP)
- Monitoring Tools such as SolarWinds Orion, Cisco DNA Center, Azure ARC, Azure Monitor
- Cisco SDWAN
- Zero Trust
- Wireless implementation for Wi-Fi 6E using predictive site tools
- Load Balancer implementation
- Network Authentication utilizing Cisco ISE
- Firewall Management utilizing Palo Alto Panorama, Azure WAFs and Azure Firewalls
- Scripting/Coding and automation using such tools as PowerShell, Python, Ansible, Terraform, etc.
Business Skills
- Experience in supporting assessments, the development of business cases, and solution architectures.
- Demonstrated proficiency with the implementation of network architectures and technologies.
- Strong command of English with good verbal and written communication skills.
- Good documentation practices.
- Efficient task switching ability.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Able to learn and retain information in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to document issues with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Availability:
- Available to work weekends and off hours.
- Supervision – Normally receives little instruction on daily work, general instructions on newly introduced assignments.
Certifications
Associate level vendor recognized certifications preferred:
- Cisco: CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Assoc) Routing & Switching
- CCDA (Cisco Certified Design Assoc)
- Nokia: NRS I (Nokia Network Routing Specialist I)
- JNCIA-Junos, JNCDA (Design)
- Ciena: OC-A (Optical Communication Associate)
