The Opportunity
The Principal Digital Product Architect is a senior strategic and visionary technology leader who will be responsible for designing and governing end-to-end business and technology solutions and architectural vision that enables the successful delivery of digital products portfolio under the Digital Products Operating Model (DPOM) framework. This role bridges business strategy and technology architecture, ensuring that solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with enterprise objectives that drive enterprise transformation and profitable growth, while supporting agile product delivery and continuous improvement.
As a key member of the Digital Products leadership team, this leader is a trusted advisor bridging business strategy and technology execution, serving as the voice of the customer, and mentoring architects, engineering, and delivery teams to build a high-performing organization. This role champions delivery agility and technology innovation to accelerate value creation and operational excellence.
The Team
Black & Veatch’s Business Enablement consists of critical groups that help enable the organizations people, projects, and businesses to be as successful as possible. Functions in this group include Digital & Information Technology, Global Finance, Global Human Resources, Legal, Risk Management, and Government Affairs and Real Estate and Building Services.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Alignment & Solution Design
- Translate business objectives and product vision into solution architectures that align with DPOM principles.
- Design and govern solution architecture blueprints, integration patterns, and roadmaps for digital products and platforms.
- Partner with Product Managers, Engineering Leads, Platform and Enterprise Architecture teams to ensure architecture alignment, technical feasibility and business value.
Governance & Compliance
- Lead architectural governance processes with the DPOM to ensure all solutions adhere to enterprise architecture standards, security policies, and regulatory compliance.
- Participate in architecture review boards and DPOM governance rituals to maintain solution integrity.
- Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture team to ensure Digital Product architectures reflect and support the broader enterprise technology vision.
Delivery Enablement
- Provide technical leadership during Agile delivery cycles, guiding teams on architecture decisions and integration strategies.
- Lead, coach and mentor Digital Platforms Teams to enable a high-performance team grounded in innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement
- Support DevOps and CI/CD adoption for rapid, reliable deployments.
- Collaborate with Platform Engineering to leverage reusable components and automation capabilities.
- Collaborate with Cloud Engineering Team(s) to influence cloud strategy, automation, scalability, and cost efficiency.
- Serve as the voice of the customer within Digital Platforms, ensuring solutions meet evolving business requirements to deliver impactful user and operational outcomes.
Innovation & AI Integration
- Strategically incubate and champion emerging technologies, (including AI and advanced analytics for predictive insights and automation) embedding differentiators into the Digital Products architectural framework.
- Stay current on emerging technologies and assess their impact on DPOM and enterprise architecture.
- Lead innovation pilots and translate technology trends into actionable, scalable architecture solutions that drive continuous Digital Products advancement.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as a trusted advisor and influencer for business leaders, explaining complex technical concepts in clear, business-oriented language to support alignment and decision-making.
- Facilitate workshops and design sessions to align stakeholders on solution approach and trade-offs.
- Advocate and embody a culture of agility, innovation, inclusivity and continuous learning across Digital Products.
Management Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- 15+ years of experience in solution architecture, enterprise systems design, and business process integration.

Preferred Qualifications
- Proven success in leading architecture governance, innovation initiatives, and digital transformation program.
- Practical, strategic, and results-driven with a focus on measurable business outcomes and customer-centric solutions.
- Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS), API-driven architectures, and security frameworks.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies, DPOM principles, and product-centric operating models.
- Preferred certifications: TOGAF, SAFe® for Architects, Azure Solutions Architect
- Exceptional ability to engage and influence senior business stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into clear business language.
- Skilled in building consensus across diverse teams and driving alignment on strategic priorities.
- Demonstrates a strong cultural fit for Digital and IT organizations, embracing agility, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Alignment of solutions with strategic objectives and DPOM governance.
- Reduction in time-to-market through scalable, reusable, cost-efficient architecture.
- Improved customer and business outcomes enabled by technology solutions.
- Improved business agility, and operational resilience enabled by architectural leadership.
