The Opportunity
As a Senior Fired Equipment Engineer, your role is to provide fired equipment support and expertise. Strong candidates are expected to have a broad set of skills and knowledge encompassing fired heaters, flares, incinerators, boilers, SCRs, and similar systems including auxiliaries, related to Oil and Gas, LNG, Ammonia, Urea, Fertilizers, Gas Processing, Midstream, Sulfur, Hydrogen, and other general heavy industries. Strong candidates shall exhibit deep code knowledge of ASME Section VIII Divisions 1 & 2, ASME Section I, API-521, API-537, API-560, API RP 936, NFPA standards, etc. applicable to fired equipment, and shall be capable of simple and complex analyses related to the design, specification, and applications engineering tasks associated with this equipment including knowledge of combustion, emissions, general permitting, and control systems/operational knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate, select, specify, and engineer fired equipment packages suitable for design needs for reliable, cost-effective, and efficient operation.
- Select and implement appropriate designs for fired equipment
- Coordinate with equipment manufacturers to select the most technically acceptable design solutions.
- Utilize leading and current technologies in development of designs.
- Prepare equipment cost estimating and manhours for FEED and Detailed Design phases.
- Prepare fired equipment data sheets and technical specifications for bid and purchase.
- Review, interpret, and include client technical specifications in the bid & purchase specifications.
- Perform bid clarifications / meetings with bidders and prepare technical bid evaluations/summaries for equipment.
- Lead and coordinate meetings with internal disciplines, external consultants, clients, contractors, subcontractors, and vendors/fabricators.
- Participate in client project meetings. Conduct meetings with fired equipment team working on the projects
- Assist junior engineers to develop their fired equipment skills.
- Perform Pre-Inspection meetings, shop surveillance, attend inspections & testing on fired equipment in vendor’s shop.
- Participate in design & model reviews, Hazop reviews, constructability reviews, etc.
- Perform vendor drawing reviews.
- Develop construction subcontracts for fired equipment and other mechanical equipment packages.
- Participate in on-site start-up and commissioning work on an as-needed basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- 10 years of relevant experience as a minimum. More experienced candidates are encouraged to apply.
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer in USA and/or Professional Engineer in Canada preferred
- Preferred Experience working in LNG and gas processing projects.
- Preferred Experience working in Ammonia, Urea, and Fertilizer plant projects.
- Preferred Experience working in Hydrogen generation projects.
- Candidates with Petrochemical and Refining Experience are suitable.
- Experience in selecting and working with all types of fired equipment and auxiliaries, complex packaged equipment systems, etc. in oil & gas and chemical process and ammonia/urea/fertilizer industries.
- Experience with ASME Code (Section I, Section VIII Divisions 1 & 2).
- Experience with NFPA 85, 86, and 87 codes.
- Experience with EPA emissions regulations and test methods.
- Experience in reading detailed project drawings, blueprints, and technical interpretations.
- Experience with fired equipment troubleshooting and small services engineering projects.
- Experience in purchasing equipment to ASME STS-1; API 521, 537, 560, and other relevant fired equipment standards.
- Experience with equipment inspection and general condition engineering assessment projects per API RP 573, 936, etc.
- Experience in attending and performing engineered equipment shop inspections.
- Experience in writing fired equipment ASME and API overlay specifications.
- Experience in material and component selection for static equipment.
- Experience with working on projects from early conceptual to detailed engineering and on to project start-up and operations support.
- Experience in the role of Lead Equipment Engineer on larger projects.
- Have mentoring skills and work with and encourage junior staff.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in handling multiple jobs/projects on a weekly basis.
- Excellent organizational skills and time management skills; self-paced.
- Capable of functioning independently, but also working with a larger team.
- Possess basic project management and/or project engineering skillsets or mindset.
- Having the following additional experience will have added advantage:
- Equipment installation, commissioning, & start-up support at site.
- Working on offshore fixed platform and floating vessel projects.
- Workshare with other country offices globally.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing
- Minimum of 8 years related work experience
