The Opportunity

As a Software Developer Intern you will have the opportunity to:

Be under general supervision, involved in developing and maintaining programming code for complex information systems.
May design, develop and /or maintain programming code for complex information systems.
May be responsible for a phase of a complex information system.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for learning and training to develop software for Black & Veatch’s custom design applications under supervision
Learn about software engineering
Assist experienced software engineers
Coding and debugging existing software applications
Collaborate with team members to develop new software.
Learn to Test software applications and document test results.
Learn to Review code and document reviews for other engineers.
Learn to perform software releases and software quality assurance activities
Learn to perform maintenance activities for products already in the production

Preferred Qualifications

Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Must possess relevant experience and/or training in languages such as C, C++, C# or Java, HTML
Must possess relevant experience and/or training in data structures or object oriented design methodology

Minimum Qualifications

Current enrollment in Information Technology or related degree program. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Work Environment

Professionals located near a Black & Veatch office have the option of a hybrid work model that offers a balance between working together in person and the flexibility of remote work. Our hybrid work model means you will work three days in the office and two days from another location of your choice.

This hybrid role is located in Overland Park, Kansas.
