Why Black & Veatch?
At Black & Veatch, you’ll be part of work that matters—designing, creating, and building the infrastructure communities rely on every day, from concept through execution.
We care about how the work gets done as much as what we build. Safety is built into every decision, and people look out for each other—speaking up, collaborating, and doing the right thing because it affects real lives.
You’ll work alongside teams solving complex challenges and turning ideas into solutions that perform in the real world—gaining hands-on experience across projects, technologies, and disciplines.
Ownership shows up in how we work. We take responsibility for outcomes, follow through on commitments, and take pride in what we deliver. As a 100% employee-owned company, employees share in the long-term success we build together.
With flexible ways of working and meaningful development opportunities, you’ll build a career you can be proud to stand behind.
The Opportunity
We are growing our Organizational Change Management (OCM) practice inside Black & Veatch’s Infrastructure Advisory group, and we are looking for someone who can do more than deliver excellent change work — someone who can also win it.
This is a sell-and-shape role. You will lead OCM pursuits end-to-end: interpreting what clients actually need, authoring winning RFP responses, and standing up in orals to earn the work in the room. You will shape the solution, scope, and price, then transition delivery to our practitioners while staying close as coach and senior reviewer. You remain the client’s trusted point of contact and own the outcome and the relationship — not the day-to-day task list.
You will be selling into a multi-billion-dollar portfolio of client relationships — many spanning 20 to 30 years — where Black & Veatch is already a trusted partner and steward. That means warm doors, deep institutional credibility, and a real pathway to growth and impact.
The Team
Black & Veatch’s Infrastructure Advisory business is an internal consulting practice spanning the asset lifecycle — Asset Management & Operations, Infrastructure Technology, Cybersecurity, Planning, and Transactions. You will join a multidisciplinary team of specialists in technology, strategy, asset management, and change management, and you will have practitioners and growth talent to build on. You will not be building the OCM practice alone: you will partner with our OCM Solution Leader and the broader solutions and delivery teams to grow it, with your focus squarely on winning good work and setting the team up to succeed at it. The practice has the range and ambition of top-tier consulting at a more intimate, human scale — built on partnership and stewardship rather than the next transaction.
Key Responsibilities
Sell and shape the work (~40%)
• Build executive relationships — become a trusted advisor to director-, VP-, and C-level client stakeholders, and grow accounts into repeat and expanded work.
• Diagnose what clients actually need — run discovery with executives and program leaders, translate ambiguous transformation goals into a defensible OCM solution, and challenge the brief when the stated need is not the real one.
• Bring OCM in early — partner with account, engineering, and solution leaders to attach OCM to major pursuits before scope is locked, and bundle it with the portfolio of BV offerings around business outcomes.
• Win in the room — lead and deliver orals and shortlist presentations with the presence and command to differentiate Black & Veatch from larger competitors.
• Lead OCM pursuits end to end — own RFP and RFI responses from win themes through final submission, partnering with capture leads, solution architects, and pricing.
• Own the commercial shape — scope, effort, staffing, schedule, and price; connect solution design to delivery risk and margin.
Govern quality and client satisfaction (~40%)
• Stay close after the sale — transition sold work to delivery practitioners and stay engaged as coach and senior reviewer, owning the outcome and the client relationship.
• Provide engagement oversight — review deliverables, guide change strategy decisions, and step in when an engagement needs senior judgment or a steadier hand.
• Remain the client’s senior point of contact — run executive check-ins, surface and resolve issues early, and protect the relationship and the scope.
• Develop the people delivering your work — coach and mentor consultants so they grow into greater ownership, and give the practice honest feedback on capability gaps.
• Protect delivery standards — hold work to Black & Veatch OCM methodologies and quality expectations, and feed lessons learned back into the practice.
• Mentoring? Participate in thriving internal CoP?
Stay in the work where it matters most (~20%)
You will not deliver everything you sell. On a small number of flagship accounts, you will choose to stay hands-on — because the best sellers never fully leave the craft.
• Lead change strategy directly — on our most strategic or complex clients, personally own executive alignment and the hardest parts of the work.
• Design and execute change strategies — impact and readiness assessments, stakeholder engagement, communications, training, sponsor coaching, and adoption measurement tied to business outcomes.
• Define and track adoption KPIs and benefits realization — so clients can see the value their investment actually produced.
• Facilitate executive workshops — alignment sessions, leadership engagements, and change-planning activities.
Partner on practice growth
• Make selling repeatable — build reusable proposal language, scope modules, pricing logic, and qualification materials so the next pursuit starts further ahead.
• Contribute to the practice — work alongside our OCM Solution Leader on playbooks, standards, and the community of practice as OCM scales across Black & Veatch.
Management Responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications
• Power, water, or utility industry experience — strongly preferred. You understand how utilities and asset-intensive organizations make decisions, how regulated environments constrain change, and how to earn credibility with operations leaders.
• 10+ years of consulting experience with a focus on organizational change management, including significant time in a client-facing, revenue-generating role.
• Demonstrated sales and pursuit success — a track record of shaping and winning consulting work: authoring RFP responses, leading orals, converting executive relationships into signed engagements, or building your own book of business.
• Experience overseeing quality and client satisfaction across multiple concurrent engagements delivered by others.
• Experience advising VP- and C-level client stakeholders in complex, politically nuanced environments.
• Familiarity with some of the systems and environments that drive utility transformation — for example AMI, CIS, ADMS, DERMS, GIS, EAM/work and asset management, SCADA/OT, or ERP.
• Experience in multidisciplinary teams spanning technology, operations, and business transformation.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree (preferably in business, technology, or engineering) or relevant work experience.
• 7+ years of experience in a business/consulting environment.
• All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements if selected, which may include a criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Certifications
Prosci Change Management Certification or equivalent preferred.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance, and work assignments.
