Duties
Lead a team of engineers and technicians to prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables for utility scale design services and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) high voltage (HV) substation, high-voltage direct-current (HVDC), and flexible alternating-current transmission system (FACTs) projects. Perform complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection. Oversee collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work. Prepare complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles. Manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Develop and apply advanced engineering solutions to complex problems. Review lower-level engineering work or assignments. Lead production teams. Coordinate multiple discipline activity. Serve as the responsible charge for projects. Establish work plan to be applied to a given project. Actively coordinate with team members on complex projects. Define project schedules for single discipline and have responsibility for multiple disciplines. Determine identification of key client interests and teams. Coordinate drivers on projects. Communicate client interests and drivers to project team members and develop approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work on moderately complex projects. Focus on client's current needs and situations. Offer other services to the client. Typically provide support to business development or pursuit activities. Proactively provide guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black & Veatch policies. Assist to develop, maintain, and update engineering standards. Provide technical guidance to others regarding projects and disciplines. Serve as a technical specialist and has knowledge and skill set to provide consultation and guidance to project teams in a particular practice area. Typically support multiple projects on the very complex technical challenges. Actively advance knowledge management of the enterprise and provide mentoring. As a subject matter expert, utilize additional expertise in a technical area, participate in professional societies by presenting papers, participate on technical committees, and assist with code/standard authoring. Be externally recognized in industry as an expert which enhances the Company brand. Oversee other Engineering Managers and Electrical Engineers. No hire/fire authority. Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline, plus at least eleven years of related experience. A Professional Engineer license is required. Must have experience with utility engineering and construction standards and processes. Must have experience with utility procurement and contract administration practices. Must have experience working as an electrical engineer within the standards established in the NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and IEC codes and standards. Related experience must include managing project budgets, schedules, and technical outputs of a multi-discipline global engineering team on projects of medium to high complexity. Must have experience working on engineering, procurement, and construction projects. Must have experience with business development and working on proposals for new client footprints. Requires experience identifying key client drivers on projects and communicating to the project team. Must have experience preparing and overseeing protection & control design, electrical layout design, relay settings, and system studies. Must have experience performing research and developing recommendations for equipment and material selection; focuses on quality and following quality requirements and guidelines. Position is eligible for remote work within the contiguous U.S. National travel to project sites (10%). Must have good written and verbal communications skills in English.
