Job Summary

Responsible for overseeing the day to day activities and supervision, training and development of a group of professionals. Responsible for review of financial statements; preparation of various reports; implementation of accounting policy and technical research related to accounting issues. Serves as technical expert to internal clients and provides resolution of complex and/or high-risk issues regarding assigned financial reports and analysis. Works under minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepares, enters and posts limited complex journal entries  
  • Review journal entries and statutory accounts 

Management Reporting:

  • May assist with resolving complex variances 
  • Identify and implement alternative solutions to prevent continued issues . May provide guidance to team on cost coding questions as needed 
  • May recommend improvement of cost code mapping, clarification of account description, elimination of duplicated or unused GL accounts  


  • Reviews audit deliverables for quality 
  • May prepare complex deliverables as needed 
  • Assist with managing audit deliverables 
  • Regular interaction with external auditors 


  • Manages and reviews complex government compliance filings  
  • Ensures compliance with government regulations  

Financial Applications and Systems:

  • May help troubleshoot system issues 
  • Participates in various system implementations and enhancements related to financial systems  

Consolidation (Statutory):

  • Review statutory account analysis 
  • Presents results to management
  • Reviews new firm checklist and new firm request form to assess new firms and determines placement in structure; reviews and approves consolidation journal entries 
  • Assigns statutory accountant resource to firm 
  • Acts as liaison for creation of new firms with other departments  

Consolidation (Corporate Reporting):

  • Prepares monthly/quarterly complex financial statements and various reports 
  • Reviews financial statements and reports for accuracy 
  • Assists with coordinating monthly and quarterly financial deliverables to management
  • Reviews and approves consolidation entries 

Account Reconciliations:

  • Reviews account reconciliations and manages resolution of escalated reconciliation issues 
  • Ensures reconciliations are being completed 
  • Identifies and/or reviews risk and opportunities and assesses reasonableness of balances
  • Recognizes impact of interfirm transactions and related elimination process; coordinates resolution of issues 
  • Reviews and approves alternative solutions to prevent continued issues 

Technical Guidance:

  • Recommends and may implement policies related to accounting procedures 

Supervisory and Resource Management:

  • As a manager, provides direction to an assigned group  
  • Oversees performance management, career planning, recognition, learning and development, and corrective actions 
  • Aligns individual report's goals with that of department, business and corporation  
  • Evaluates staff training needs to prepare for growth and development
  • Ensures policies, procedures, and processes are effectively developed, implemented, and communicated for workgroup 
  • Ensures adherence to corporate and business programs
  • Identifies and may assess improvement opportunities 
  • Champions continuous improvement efforts 
  • Assesses and supports the change management effects associated with the implementation of improvements 
  • Proactively supports, encourages and facilitates staff to engage in continuous improvement activities 

Internal Clients:

  • Moderate interactions with the businesses including DFOs, upper management and executives; Legal, HR, Accounting Operations, Payroll, Treasury, Tax and Financial Applications 

Management Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent experience. Typically 7+ years related experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master Business Administration (MBA) or MS in Accounting, preferred 
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or certified accountant, a plus 
  • Experience in hiring and supervising professionals preferred  

Preferred Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of FAR and CAS preferred
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Intermediate
  • Microsoft Access, Basic
  • Knowledge of Black and Veatch Systems, Advanced
  • Knowledge of percent complete accounting, Intermediate
