The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced communications professional to be a part of our talented, inclusive, and collaborative Employee Communications team. The Strategic Communications Manager position is a hybrid role, with minimal day-to-day supervision positioned to drive consistent communications strategy, planning and messaging internally across the organization. While our ideal candidate will have experience with digital and information technology communications in the engineering and construction industry, what’s most important is the ability to develop messages to make complex technical concepts easy to understand for internal audiences and to work collaboratively with executive level stakeholders across a diverse team.
The Team
Black & Veatch’s Business Enablement consists of critical groups that help enable the organization's people, projects, and businesses to be as successful as possible. Functions in this group include Digital & Information Technology, Global Finance, Global Human Resources, Legal, Risk Management, and Government Affairs and Real Estate and Building Services
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead the implementation of internal communications strategy and messaging with primary focus on Digital & Information Technology and other business enablement functions aiming to increase employee engagement and message clarity.
- Create and deliver internal communications content across multiple channels, including email updates, newsletters, intranet content, videos, and presentations.
- Proactively work with key stakeholders, including executives, across the organization to ensure that all internal communication is aligned with business objectives and supports the company’s culture and values.
- Identify and implement innovative communications tools and techniques to enhance internal communications effectiveness.
- Monitor and measure the effectiveness of internal communications and make recommendations for improvement based on feedback and data analysis.
- Develop and maintain a content calendar to ensure that internal communications are timely and relevant.
- Collaborate with business enablement function leaders such as HR and Marketing for planning and content development for meetings and other internal events.
- Partner with all members of the Employee Communications team to proactively identify, create, and publish content.
Management Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related field preferred, or equivalent experience
- 6+ years progressive experience, including 2+ years supervisory
- All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in communications or public relations with experience in information technology, computer science, or a similar field. Certifications such as PMP or Six Sigma a plus.
- Experience in the Engineering & Construction industry or B2B space with a proven track record of successful communications strategies in these sectors.
- Proficiency in using tools such as the Adobe Creative Suite, Workshop, Divvy, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams and other collaboration platforms.
- Demonstrated experience managing and maintaining internal communication tools is a plus (internal email software, intranet, etc.)
- Understand and be able to communicate digital and information technology strategy, tools, processes and concepts, making complex technical information understandable to diverse audiences.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills including strong editorial skills.
- Strong knowledge of communications strategy and channels.
- Proven ability to develop consistent messaging aligned to business strategy.
- Skilled at engaging in cross-functional teams and in working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
Normal office environment with a hybrid work schedule: 3 days in office and 2 days remote
